Love is a beautiful thing, probably the most beautiful feeling ever, the joy one experiences by the slightest thought of a soulmate, the emotional chills at the mere sound of their voices, the tingling sensation and rushes down the spine; truly, nothing can be compared. Rosy had this effect on me I never had any doubt about tying the knot with her, she was the perfect fit for me and no lady could've rivaled her for a place in my heart.
I could remember the second time I set my eyes on her, at that Instant, deep down I knew I was in trouble. Everything in me was restive, my mind had shut down all other issues to focus on this beautiful creature right there before me. I had initially missed an opportunity to walk up to her a few months back, "this time must be different, she must hear you speak and straight into her heart" - that's my mind at work, truly I mustn't miss the chance.
Rosy was with her friends inside the Faculty of management sciences, they were sitting outside the office of one of their lecturers waiting for the man to attend to them. A friend of mine, Philip had urged me to accompany him to see his project supervisor in the accounting department, we had just resumed the first semester of our final year in the university of Lagos and various departments already started grouping their students under supervisors for final projects.
While waiting for Philip outside of his supervisor's office I started feeling impatient as what was supposed to be a 5-10minutes chat was becoming a sermon. Philip had been in the man's office close to 50minutes, they(group members) seemed to be getting heads up concerning their project work from him, as a final year student myself I could understand why the meeting is taking too long but I'd rather be somewhere else getting busy with anything of my own volition.
It wasn't long that my eyes were miraculously led to the opposite side, it was miraculous because I had been busy pressing my phone the whole time. On the opposite side was the girl I regretted not walking up to the previous academic session, the first time I saw her was during my 400l examination period. I was on my way to the exam hall while she was among her friends, from the look of things they were just coming out of an examination hall laughing and wishing each other "best of luck".
Some part of me wanted to go talk to her but it just didn't happen, not because I was timid or afraid of being aired, I was simply in a rush and wasn't mentally ready for it even though my mind was focused on the impending exam, I still got flashes of how she looked like right there in the hall. Few minutes after I was done with the paper my mind started playing tricks on me as I started recollecting frames and pictures of the most beautiful girl I have seen yet on campus, at that point, I regretted not talking to her.
"This time, there is no examination nor am I in a rush to someplace. Even if I was in a rush nothing should stop me today" - I told myself. So I quickly made my move before it's too late, remember they were also waiting outside their lecturer's Office. Before I could get to her a man came out of the office, seemed he apologized and begged them to wait a few more minutes, I was seeing they didn't they follow him and I increased the rate at which I was walking.
So I eventually got to where she was, they were 5 in numbers and were talking and giggling as I walked up to them, she didn't notice me but two of her friends did and I immediately wore a smile on my face. They smiled back then I started "Hello ladies, mind if I stay with you guys for a few minutes? I am bored and still waiting for someone"
Girl 1: oh okay…
Girl 2: "really! But why do you think you won't be bored with us?"
Me: "well, I…"
Rosebeth: "actually, we mind because now we'll be forced to discontinue our gist."
Girl 1: laughs… "oh that's true"
Girl 3: "It's okay, I hope you will make us laugh?"
Me: Oh it's the other way around, I came here because of two things. To enjoy your company as I had noticed the giggling and all that" then Rosebeth cuts in…" and the second?"
I pursed for some seconds lets out a subtle smile and look her in the face, then I said "for you". The ladies looked at one another and started laughing, one thing I concluded on that day was that they just love laughing. So I continued; I have seen you(Rosebeth) before and you too(I pointed at girl 3, of course, I remembered her face too).
Rosebeth: really! And where was that?
Me: Last session first semester, I described the place and what they were doing. Then I told girl 3; you guys were together that day.
So I introduced myself, then asked their names. Turned out only two were close friends with Rosy even though they were all department mates. Philip was still with his supervisor but I had a feeling it wouldn't be long before he came out of the office because he'd been there for an hour plus. I jumped straight to business as I asked the girls permission to steal Rosebeth for few minutes. Rosy replied immediately; "ask me first, not them. If I agree then you can ask them"
Without wasting time, I nicely asked her; "your Majesty, would you avail me few minutes of your precious time? It is exigent that I have this discourse with you in privy so kindly negotiate your excuse from your friends." Rosebeth lets out a beautiful smile as she excused herself and we walked away from her friends, I could tell she was impressed with my use of words.
Rosebeth: It's been six months since the first and last time you saw me but still manage to recognize me now. How fascinating?
Me: It is really, but it wasn't a surprise to me because you were always in my subconscious.
Rosy: wow! Men are really funny!
Me: I'm not being funny here, I regret not walking up to you that day maybe that's why your picture came to my mind a few times. I am Daniel, a final year student of Civil Engineering. I expected her to pick it up and say something but she was quiet.
I turned to face her as we stopped walking, we were already at the entrance of the Faculty building so we sighed some empty chair and settled in.
Me: Why did you say men are funny and also you were mum even after introducing myself?
Rose: I already told you my name and department too. Then she smiled. Again!
