Chapter 5: My First Day

577 Words
Orin’s pov It was my first day since moving from Westmont, Virginia, to Riverside High School in California. The day started off well. I guess I didn't know I didn’t want to pay attention till around lunch time. I had gotten bumped into by what looked like a jock-ish type person and decided to beat him up for his ‘mistake’ which I found out while beating him up, it wasn't a mistake. As I actually walked into the lunch room I saw a girl and she looked so beautiful it made my insides turn landfill with butterflies but didn’t show since I had to keep my hard exterior I walked over to her table and noticed a boy sitting next to her and a girl also sat there but decided not to make conversation with anyone and just sit in the uncomfortable silence till the one I thought had an aesthetic look started to talk saying, “Hey, your Orin, right? My name is Kaylie. Do you know where the nurse’s office is? You might want to get that hand checked out if I were you. Don’t want it to get infected” oh so her name is Kaylie perfect name for a perfect girl… wait what is going on with me!?         After a bit I answered “Yeah that’s my name don’t wear it out, by the way no I don’t know where it is, do you mind taking me?” The first part was a bit derogatory, but she seemed not to mind and simply answered “Yeah I’ll take you there, if you don’t mind can i see it? I wanna be a nurse when I graduate.” Wow okay so she’s smart too! Wait for real WHAT IS GOING ON WITH ME!? Showing her my hand he seemed to be inspecting it and finally said “Yeah that’s some bad cuts you need to go get them covered up before they get infected. The more time they stay in the air and without antibiotic ointment the more at risk you’ll be for having them become infected.” Woah- she really was studying to be a nurse! “Oh okay then let’s go I guess.” I replied dryly which also didn’t seem to bother her, Wow she has a hard exterior too. “Okay let’s go.”                   She led me down a few halls then walked into a door and I noticed the stareal smell and the fluorescent lighting the nurse seemed to be out so she immediately led me to a seating area telling me the nurse wouldn’t mind if she fixed me up considering the nurse knows she plans to be a nurse. So she grabbed some gauze pads, medical wrap, antibiotic ointment, and some bactine. She ordered me to go wash my hands with soap and water and surprisingly I didn't get mad at her for ordering me to do something. I did as I was told and washed it out then walked back into the room and was a bit perplexed by how much she knew for being a senior in high school. She did all she needed to do and was out of the room in what felt like record time.
