Scarlett's sobs pulled Ethan out of a shallow sleep at three in the morning.
He opened his eyes. The hospital room was dark except for a thin line of light leaking in from the corridor. Scarlett was curled into a ball, cold sweat soaking through her hospital gown and plastering it to her back.
He pushed himself upright and gathered her against him.
Her body was shaking badly, as if she had a high fever or was trapped in a nightmare. He pressed his palm to her back, and his Alpha calming scent released on instinct. The smell of pine and thunderstorm filled the entire hospital room.
Scarlett's eyes flew open. Tears shimmered in her green eyes. She clenched his collar, her voice hoarse. "Please… Talk things through with Aria as soon as possible."
