Chapter 4 My Sister Is A Live streamer?!
Modu University, Female Dormitory.
Su Ruoxi sat cross-legged on her bed, staring at her phone and grinning like a girl who had just won the lottery.
I want to take you somewhere nice.
Chen Feng, the man who checked the price of a milk tea before ordering one, had actually said that.
"Hehehe..."
"Ooh, look at that smile!" Lin Xiaoyu spun around on her chair, comb still in hand. "Did he propose?"
"Nonsense!" Su Ruoxi's cheeks went pink. "He just invited me out tomorrow. Somewhere nice."
"Somewhere nice," Tang Meilin repeated from her bed, and she snorted. "Let me guess. A hotpot place with a coupon?"
Guo Wenjing didn't look up from her book. "Let her be happy."
"I'm only being realistic." Lin Xiaoyu put down the comb and sighed like a doctor about to deliver bad news. "Ruoxi, we're in our final year. You study fashion design. You love designer clothes, handbags, perfume. What can Chen Feng give you? He's an orphan with nothing behind him and a brother and sister to feed."
Su Ruoxi's smile faded. "Xiaoyu."
"I'm saying this for your own good! Leave him now before you get too attached. There are plenty of rich young masters at this school who would line up to buy you a bag."
The room went quiet.
Su Ruoxi set her phone down slowly. When she spoke, her voice was soft, but it didn't shake.
"I knew he was an orphan before I said yes. I knew he had a brother and sister to look after. I chose him anyway." She looked straight at Lin Xiaoyu. "Do you know what he does when we pass a shop I like? He pretends not to notice, then walks faster, because he doesn't want me to see him feeling guilty. A man like that is worth more to me than any bag."
Tang Meilin opened her mouth, then closed it.
"Fine, fine," Lin Xiaoyu muttered, and she rolled her eyes. "Date your poor boyfriend. Just don't come crying to us when love doesn't pay the bills."
Su Ruoxi smiled sweetly. "Don't worry. If I ever cry, I'll bring my own tissues."
Tang Meilin burst out laughing. Even Guo Wenjing's mouth twitched.
But when the chatter moved on, Su Ruoxi glanced at her phone one more time.
Tomorrow.
She had no idea what he was planning. She only knew her heart had started to beat a little faster.
---
Male Dormitory.
Chen Feng sat on his bed, and the room was blessedly quiet. The Ferrari was parked safely in a lot near campus, and for the first time all night, nobody was staring at him.
He had something more important to test.
The 100× Cashback System.
Every ¥1,000 he spent could return ¥100,000. But the system had said "eligible expenditure," and he wasn't about to burn money blindly to find out what counted.
"Where do people spend money for no reason at all?" he muttered.
Then he thought of the answer and opened Douyin.
Livestreams. People paid real money for virtual roses and cartoon rockets, and nobody asked what they got in return. If anything counted as strange spending, that did.
He scrolled. A girl sang a song he didn't know. A boy screamed at a game. A woman in a sequined dress thanked 3 "big brothers" in a row for sending her something called a Rocket.
*People really do pay for this.*
His thumb kept moving, bored, flicking past one stream after another.
Then it stopped.
On the screen, a girl in a soft white sweater sat in front of a ring light, tucking hair behind her ear as she read a comment aloud. Her eyes curved into crescents when she laughed.
Chen Feng's brain went blank.
"...Xinyi?"
He sat up straight and brought the phone closer.
It was his twin sister, Chen Xinyi. She was on camera in a room he recognized as her dormitory, with a title in pink letters across the screen: Xinyi's Late Night Chat
Why is she livestreaming?
[Little Fish: Whoa, new streamer? She's so pretty!!]
[Brother Wolf: Which school are you from, beauty? Add me on WeChat?]
[Heaven's Gift: Beautiful AND sweet. Sent a gift! ]
A rose bloomed over the screen. Then a second. Then a small rocket.
"Thank you, Brother Wolf! Thank you, Heaven's Gift!" Xinyi's face lit up with the careful, practiced smile of someone who hadn't done this long. "You're all so kind. I don't know what to say."
Chen Feng's jaw tightened.
She was doing this for money. It was the only thing that made sense. Xinyi never complained, never asked, and always told him she was fine. And he had sat in this dorm, counting ¥286.40, while his sister had quietly gone looking for a way to cover what he couldn't.
His chest felt tight, and the feeling had a taste, bitter and sharp.
"i***t," he muttered, though he wasn't sure who he meant.
On the screen, a new comment popped up.
**[Brother Wolf: Xinyi, sweetheart, if you want, I can send you a bigger gift in private. Just add me.]**
Chen Feng's eyes went cold.
He didn't distrust his sister. Not for a second. He distrusted the wolves with their roses and their "sweethearts" and their private messages, circling a girl who had been trying to get by without troubling anyone.
*Add me? Sweetheart?*
He let out a slow breath. Then, to his own surprise, he smiled.
It wasn't a warm smile. It was the smile of a man who had just remembered exactly how much money was sitting in his account.
He looked at the screen again. Brother Wolf. Heaven's Gift. A whole crowd of strangers all calling themselves her big brothers.
"Wait a minute..." he murmured.
His grip tightened on the phone.
"I'm her big brother in the real world. So why can't I be her big brother in her livestream, too?"
