Chapter 11: The Dormitory Interrogation
"Ruoxi... where in the world did you get all of that?"
Lin Xiaoyu's voice came out thin and breathless. The green facial mask still hung limply from her fingers, completely forgotten.
Tang Meilin was already out of her chair in a flash. "RUOXI! Is that Chanel?!"
"Yes." Su Ruoxi set the mountain of luxury shopping bags down by her desk, a helpless grin spreading across her face. "Hello to you too."
"Don't 'hello' me! You walked out of this building this morning wearing a faded cardigan, and now you look like you just stepped off a Parisian runway!"
Guo Wenjing had quietly closed her heavy economics textbook. But her eyes weren't looking at the designer clothes. They were locked onto the handbag resting squarely on Su Ruoxi's arm.
"Ruoxi. Is that... a Birkin?"
Lin Xiaoyu's head snapped toward it so fast her neck popped. "A real one?"
"A real one," Su Ruoxi replied, lifting it up slightly by the handle. "Price tag was ¥1,480,000."
Absolute, pin-drop silence filled the room.
Tang Meilin's jaw dropped open so wide it nearly unhinged. Lin Xiaoyu instinctively took half a step backward, looking at the pristine leather bag as if it might suddenly jump up and bite her.
"One... point... four... eight million yuan," Tang Meilin whispered slowly, spacing out every syllable. "For a single handbag."
"And look at this," Guo Wenjing said, gently catching Su Ruoxi's wrist and pulling her hand into the overhead light. The slim platinum dial caught the glare. "Patek Philippe."
"Yes."
"How much?"
Su Ruoxi lifted her chin just a fraction, a flush of nervous excitement touching her cheeks. "¥12,000,000."
"TWELVE MILLION YUAN?!"
Tang Meilin's shriek was so piercing it rattled the double-paned window glass. Somewhere out in the hallway, an angry neighbor banged heavily on the wall and shouted, "Keep it down out there!"
Nobody in Room 302 cared in the slightest.
"Who on earth bought you all of this?" Guo Wenjing asked, though the answer was already obvious to everyone in the room.
"Chen Feng."
Lin Xiaoyu's knees suddenly buckled, and she sat down hard on the edge of her mattress. It was that involuntary kind of sitting down that happens when your legs completely abandon you.
"Chen Feng," she repeated, her voice hollow. "The Chen Feng who..."
"The Chen Feng who couldn't afford a decent meal last semester," Tang Meilin finished for her smoothly, leaning back into her chair with a sweet smile. "The one you kept warning Ruoxi to dump before she got too emotionally invested."
The room grew instantly cold.
"I didn't say it quite like that," Lin Xiaoyu muttered, pulling her knees up to her chest, her face turning crimson.
"Oh, you definitely did. I remember every word, because you specifically told her that 'love doesn't pay the dorm rent.'" Tang Meilin tilted her head, her eyes sparkling with mischief. "Well, Xiaoyu? I think love just paid a twelve-million-yuan bill. Do you think it needs a receipt?"
Guo Wenjing pressed her lips together to hide a smile. Su Ruoxi stared down at the polished floorboards, trying desperately to keep a straight face and completely failing.
Lin Xiaoyu's face cycled rapidly—red, then pale, then an uncomfortable, burning crimson again. "I was just trying to be realistic! I had no idea he was hiding—"
"None of us knew," Su Ruoxi interrupted gently, her voice softening. "Honestly... not even me."
"What do you mean?"
"He literally pulled up outside in that custom Ferrari this morning. I found out the exact same second you guys did." She sank down into her desk chair, letting out a long breath. "I still hasn't even asked him where all of this money came from. He just told me he'd explain everything when the time is right."
"And you just... accepted that?" Tang Meilin stared at her as if she had lost her mind.
"I trust him. He was fiercely loyal and good to me back when he had less than three hundred yuan in his bank account. He hasn't changed at all; he's still the exact same Chen Feng." She twisted her wrist, letting the diamond-set bezel of the Patek Philippe catch the lamplight. "Honestly? I'm just happy for him."
Guo Wenjing's expression softened into a warm, genuine smile. "That is honestly the best possible answer."
"It's a deeply annoying answer," Tang Meilin groaned, dramatically flopping back onto her pillows. "I wanted juicy gossip! I wanted corporate drama! Ruoxi, I am officially reserving my legal right to be insanely jealous of your boyfriend."
"Meilin!"
"What? I'm just being honest!"
The tension shattered instantly, and the four girls burst into laughter—even Lin Xiaoyu, though her laugh came out a beat too late. She nervously picked at a loose thread on her blanket, keeping her eyes glued to her lap.
"Ruoxi," she said finally, her voice dropping to a small, humbled tone no one in the room had heard from her all year. "I'm... I'm really sorry about what I said earlier. I shouldn't have been so quick to judge him."
Su Ruoxi blinked, pleasantly surprised, before her lips curved into a warm smile. "It's okay, Xiaoyu. Really. Let's drop it."
"It's definitely not okay," Tang Meilin chimed in cheerfully, "but I'll officially forgive you on one condition: you let me try on the Birkin bag."
"Only if you wash your hands first."
"Rude. But completely fair."
While her roommates began chattering excitedly over the mountain of designer shopping bags, Guo Wenjing had gone completely quiet. She was holding her smartphone, her thumb slowly scrolling down a feed with a concentrated frown.
"Hold on a second," Guo Wenjing murmured, holding her hand up. "Everybody stop talking and look at this."
"What is it now?" Tang Meilin asked, clutching the orange Hermès box like a shield.
"Someone just dropped this on the Modu University campus forum ten minutes ago." Guo Wenjing turned her phone screen around so the display faced the room. "It's already trending at the top of the board."
It was a short, shaky mobile video filmed inside the brightly lit marble corridors of a luxury plaza. A young man in a clean, plain shirt was walking steadily forward with a girl on his arm. The girl was wearing a cream tweed designer dress, and a familiar ¥1,480,000 Birkin bag swung effortlessly from her elbow. Just off-camera, an astonished voice could be heard exclaiming, "No, I'm not joking, he didn't even ask the price once!"
Tang Meilin leaned in so fast her nose almost touched the glass. "That's... that's Ruoxi!"
"And that's the Hermès VIP corridor," Guo Wenjing added quietly, pointing at the storefront in the background. "And the man walking with her is definitely Chen Feng."
The bold title splashed across the top of the video post was written in massive, eye-catching characters:
[Modu's Ultimate Mystery Young Master Buys 10 Luxury Handbags in One Go! WHO IS HE?!]
In the bottom corner, the view counter was spinning like a broken odometer, already flashing 2.3 million views. Directly beneath it, user comments were scrolling down the screen so fast they blended into a continuous wall of white text:
[ Is that actually Chen Feng from Modu University's finance department?? ]
[ Wait a minute, I literally saw him step out of a custom red hypercar near the south gate yesterday! THE FERRARI GUY IS REAL! ]
[ Holy shit... his girlfriend's handbag is the limited Himalayan diamond edition. You can't even buy that with cash alone; you need direct European royal connections! ]
[ The streamer said he walked into Hermès and bought ten bags in one go without blinking. Who is this guy?! Is a massive new conglomerate moving into Modu?! ]
[ Modu's Second-Generation elite circle is about to experience a massive earthquake. Just wait until arrogant pricks like Zhao Kai find out someone else is stealing all the spotlight. ]
Inside Room 302, not a single sound could be heard except for the faint hum of the mini-fridge.
Su Ruoxi stared blankly at the glowing phone screen. Then, moving in slow motion as if she feared the world around her might suddenly dissolve, she looked down at the pristine Patek Philippe watch strapped securely to her wrist—a secret treasure the internet didn't even know existed yet.
"Chen Feng..." she whispered into the quiet room, her heart pounding a frantic rhythm against her ribs. "Just who on earth... are you?"
Right at that exact second, her phone began to vibrate loudly in her palm.
