Chapter 8 The Supreme Card Su Ruoxi stared at the key in his hand, then at the car, then at him. "Yours? Feng, don't joke with me." "Do I look like I'm joking?" "But..." She knew him better than anyone. An orphan who counted every yuan, who walked faster past shops so she wouldn't see him feeling guilty. And now he was standing beside a Ferrari worth tens of millions as if he'd been born next to one. "I'll explain everything," Chen Feng said, opening the passenger door. "But lunch first. Come on." "You owe me a full explanation." "Of course, Your Highness." "Who are you calling Your Highness?" "You. Who else?" "Chen Feng!" Her protest turned into a laugh as he helped her in. --- Modu Financial Street was where Modu kept its money. Luxury malls, designer boutiques, five-star hotels, restaurants with no prices on the menu. Supercars were so common there that nobody bothered to look at them. The doorman of the restaurant Chen Feng stopped at looked anyway. He had seen a lot of expensive cars, but a red hypercar like this one made him straighten up and hurry to open the passenger door. "Welcome, sir. Welcome, madam." Inside, the lobby was all marble pillars and glass. They had barely taken 5 steps when a voice cut across the room. "Excuse me!" A woman in her late twenties sat near the entrance, dressed head to toe in designer labels, a diamond necklace at her throat and a handbag on the next chair like a second guest. Ms. Li. Her family was nothing special, but a rich man paid for her lunches here, and she had started acting as if she owned a share of the building. She looked Chen Feng up and down, then Su Ruoxi, and her lip curled. "Who let these people in? This is a five-star restaurant, not a roadside noodle stall." Nearby diners looked up. "Excuse me, who do you think..." Su Ruoxi began. "Who do I think I am?" Ms. Li laughed. "Some people have no self-awareness. Walking through the door doesn't mean you belong here." She snapped her fingers at a passing waitress. "You. Send these two out. I refuse to breathe the same air as them." The waitress hesitated. "Madam, they're customers too. Unless they've broken a rule, we can't..." "Then call your manager! Let's see whether he chooses me or these two pieces of trash!" The waitress hurried away. Su Ruoxi's face was red. Chen Feng simply pulled out a chair for her. "Sit. We came for lunch, not an argument." "Feng, we're just going to let her..." "Let her talk. It's free." Ms. Li smirked, taking their silence as shame. Manager Zhang arrived within a minute, straightening his tie as he went. He saw Ms. Li first and his smile warmed. He saw the couple second, noted the plain clothes, and his smile cooled. "Good afternoon. I'm afraid our restaurant operates on membership and reservation only. Do you have either?" "No," said Chen Feng. "Then I'm sorry, but we can't accommodate you today. You're welcome to book for tomorrow." Ms. Li laughed out loud. "Even the manager is explaining the rules to you. What more do you want?" "Look at him," she added, to the room. "Everything he's wearing doesn't add up to ¥100. And you," she said to Su Ruoxi, "could have found a man who can give you a decent life." Su Ruoxi shot to her feet. "Watch your mouth!" Chen Feng put a hand over hers. "Ruoxi. It's fine." Then, to the manager, he said, "What are the membership levels?" Manager Zhang blinked. Was he serious? "We have 4. Bronze requires a deposit of ¥1,000,000. Gold, ¥10,000,000. Black, ¥50,000,000." "And the last?" "The Supreme Card. Our highest tier, with no spending limit for its members." He paused, almost smiling. "The deposit is ¥100,000,000." A few diners had stopped eating. "Is that the highest?" "It is, sir." "Good. I'll take one." Silence. Then Ms. Li burst out laughing, so hard she had to hold her stomach. "A Supreme Card? In those clothes? Manager Zhang, give him a tour of the kitchen. At least he'll know what the food looks like before he goes back to wherever he came from." Manager Zhang's voice went cold. "Sir, the minimum is ¥100,000,000. Perhaps you misunderstood." "I didn't." Chen Feng took a bank card from his pocket. It wasn't the Centurion Card. It was his ordinary one. He laid it on the table. "Charge ¥200,000,000." Nobody moved. Ms. Li's laugh stopped as if someone had cut a wire. The waitress forgot to breathe. "Sir..." Manager Zhang's voice cracked. "Did you say two hundred million?" "Is there a problem?" "No, no, of course not." He took the card with both hands and waved over the terminal himself. His thumb shook as he typed in the amount. "Please confirm, sir." "Proceed." Ms. Li folded her arms. "It'll be declined. Watch." Everyone watched. Phones had come out at the next table, and a man near the window whispered, "Is he actually..." BEEP. PAYMENT SUCCESSFUL. ¥200,000,000. In Chen Feng's mind, the system chimed. [Ding! Eligible expenditure detected. 100× Cashback activated.] [Congratulations, Host! You have received ¥20,000,000,000 in cashback!] He didn't even blink. Manager Zhang read the screen once. Then again. Then he bowed so low that his tie nearly touched the table. "Sir! Please forgive our blindness. We failed to recognize an honored guest!" He spun toward the waitress. "Tell the membership department we have a new Supreme Card holder! Now! Sir, our finest private room is yours..." "We'll eat here," said Chen Feng. "Of course, sir! Whatever you wish!" Someone at the next table whispered, "Supreme Card holder... that's the first one this year." Su Ruoxi sat very still, staring at him. She gripped his sleeve and lowered her voice. "Feng. You just spent two hundred million." "Yes." "Is that too much?" he added, smiling. "TOO MUCH?!" She had to remind herself to whisper. "Do you know how much that is? How can you act like it's nothing?" "Because I can afford it." She had no answer. Ms. Li, meanwhile, had turned the color of paper. Her mouth opened and closed. The woman who had demanded that the manager choose between her and "trash" watched that same manager bow to the trash, and the diners around her, who had spent the last 5 minutes nodding along, suddenly found their plates fascinating. Chen Feng finally looked at her. He didn't raise his voice. "Madam, weren't you saying something about standards?" Her face went crimson. Nothing came out. He turned away before she could try. "Let's order, Ruoxi." Su Ruoxi nodded slowly and picked up the menu. But one thought kept circling in her head, louder with every second. Who exactly was her boyfriend?
