I'm standing in a clearing in the woods, my whole body hunched up in anticipation. In front of me was a single Grey wolf, his hackles up and his teeth bared. I shifted forwards slightly and snarled back at him. I would not let him beat me.
Pup. The voice of his wolf using the mind link made me shudder. Do you really think you can beat me, you filthy Mutt? Me, an Alpha, an actual wolf! His snarling filled the clearing, ringing out for what seemed like forever. I think you are foolish, little dog. You do not know who you are dealing with.
I snorted loudly, pretending to be as brave as he was. "I know exactly who I'm dealing with." I said out loud, so that the others could hear, even if they couldn't reach me in time. "That's why I'm not afraid." I leaned back further into my crouch, my eyes darting wildly around the meadow, watching the last winter snow fall from the sky. It was freezing, the ice cold air nipping at me from underneath my thin summer jeans and t-shirt and making my fingers numb.
"Did you hear me?" I yelled out, making him flinch in surprise. "I'm not afraid of you!" I broke eye contact to look at my watch for a split second, reading the time and shaking. "I'm not afraid of you!" I yelled again, taking a deep breath and smiled something cruel and sadistic at the wolf. It was 11:59 pm, on December the 29th. Just one minute to go.
I could feel the change come within me; my ears ached as I took in the full level of sound, something I'd never been able to hear before, and my entire body thumped with the power of new blood within me. Carun? I called out, my mind already bending as I said it. Are we ready?
The Wolf in front of me growled, his instincts unnerved by the strange things he could see happening to me. I grinned again, my smile utterly feral, and sprung forwards. Forwards, towards him.
