Chapter 30: Shattered Sanctuary

802 Words
The heavy oak doors of the private study clicked shut, and the sudden silence in the master penthouse felt like a physical weight pressing down on my chest. I had survived Ethan's interrogation by luck, concealing the truth that I was pregnant and carrying his first heir. For how long this pregnancy will remain a secret I don't know, but I will keep it secret for as long as I can. But as I felt my baby's kick in my womb, a wave of profound grief crashed through my soul. The man who had just promised to keep me safe and protect me was the same man whose bloodline carried a fatal birth curse. I will surely die when I bring forth this child. Suddenly, a shadow darted across the balcony. My inner wolf instantly reared up inside my mind, howling a frantic, deafening warning that turned my blood to pure ice. Before I could even swing my legs off the mattress, a deafening, thunderous explosion shattered the silence of the room. The massive glass windows violently blew inward, exploding into a million jagged, flying shards that rained down across the polished marble floor. Through the thick smoke and flying glass, three massive silhouettes crashed onto the bedroom floor, sliding out of high-tech tactical grappling lines dropped from the roof. My heart beat fast, pure adrenaline shooting straight through my veins as the smoke cleared. My blue eyes widened in horror. The attackers wore dark, heavy tactical gear, and etched into the center of their chest plates was the unmistakable, cruel silver insignia of my old pack. Alpha Richard’s elite shadow-assassins had completely bypassed the royal border vanguard. "Target secured! Grab the girl and plant the bombs!" the lead commander roared, his voice muffled by a black combat mask as he launched forward, his thick arms reaching out to pin me down. "Get your filthy hands off me!" I screamed fiercely, my kickass instincts taking over completely. I didn't cower or beg. Springing off the ground, I dodged his heavy grasp, utilizing my martial arts training to dodge sharply. I slammed my elbow directly into the commander's jaw with a sickening crack, sending him stumbling back over the broken glass. But before I could draw another breath, the other two assassins lunged from the sides, grabbing my wrists and violently yanking my frame backward. I twisted my body mid-air, kicking out wildly, but their supernatural, brute strength was overwhelming. They pinned my arms behind my spine, forcing me to my knees as the cold metal collar pressed against my neck. I thrashed against their grip, but the lead commander recovered instantly. Before I could scream for Ethan, his heavy, gloved fist violently slammed into the side of my temple. A sharp explosion of white-hot pain shattered my vision, and my world instantly began to tilt into darkness. As my body went completely limp, slipping into unconsciousness. The heavy oak study doors violently exploded off their hinges, shattering into thousands of lethal wooden splinters as Alpha King Ethan stormed into the bedroom. He was completely transformed into his monstrous, demonic Lycan form, his gold-flecked eyes flashing pitching black with an unadulterated, primeval protective madness. Seeing my unmoving, battered body bleeding on the cold marble floor he completely insane. With a terrifying, blood-curdling roar that rattled the palace foundations, Ethan drifted across the room. He snatched the two side assassins by their throats, lifting their massive frames effortlessly into the air and brutally tearing them apart mid-air in a horrific shower of crimson. The lead commander gasped, scrambling back over the broken glass, but Ethan was already towering over him. He slammed the commander into the stone wall, his large claws clamping around his shoulder with a sickening, wet crunch as he forcefully snapped his arm completely in half. "My Lord!" Beta Thomas roared, bursting into the shattered penthouse with a vanguard of heavily armed royal enforcers. They instantly pinned the screaming, battered commander to the floor. "We have secured the perimeter! The bombs have been neutralized!" "Take this piece of filth to the deepest level of the dungeons," Ethan hissed, his deep, monstrous baritone vibrating with a lethal promise as his claws dripped with fresh blood. "Keep him alive until I personally carve the answers out of his flesh." The guards dragged the broken commander away, leaving the room in a heavy, suffocating silence. Ethan instantly shifted back into his towering human form, his chest heaving as he dropped to his knees beside me. His large, trembling hands carefully scooped my unconscious frame into his arms, pulling my bleeding head flush against his pounding chest. Without a single word, he stood up and bolted out of the ruined penthouse, carrying me at supernatural speed down the executive corridors back toward the medical wing.
