The cold steel of the blade pressed deeper into the sensitive skin of my throat, drawing a tiny, stinging bead of blood. I held my breath, my body locking into a rigid, defensive stance as Alpha Richard’s enforcer gripped my hair tighter, forcing my head back.
"Tick-tock, Marcus," Richard sneered, his voice dripping with pure, mocking malice as he tapped the territory documents against his polished boot. "What is it going to be? Do you watch your precious little girl bleed out on the dirt floor, or do you sign the papers?"
"No! Stop! Don't hurt her!" my father roared from the back wall, his weak, battered frame shaking violently as the iron chains rattled against the ceiling. His spirit, which had survived years of brutal physical torture, completely broke the moment my life was put on the line. Tears of pure agony cut through the dirt on his pale cheeks. "I'll sign it! I'll tell you where the royal signet stamp is hidden! Just pull the knife away from my daughter's throat!"
An evil, triumphant laugh escaped Richard’s lips. He stepped forward, raising his pen. "Smart choice, old man. Tell me where–"
He never finished the sentence.
BOOM.
The heavy iron dungeon doors didn't just open–they completely exploded inward, shattering off their rusted hinges and blasting across the stone cells like flying shrapnel. A suffocating, terrifying wave of pure, unadulterated Alpha fury crashed into the room like a physical shockwave. The atmospheric pressure dropped to sub-zero instantly, making the air dense and impossible to breathe. The raw power was so heavy that the knees of Richard's enforcers instantly buckled, their weapons clattering onto the dirt.
Deep within my chest, my inner wolf sat up, letting out a wild, involuntary howl of recognition.
Mate.
Through the rolling gray smoke, Alpha Ethan Vance strode into the dungeon cells.
He looked like a god of war forged from pure darkness, his pitch-black military cloak billowing behind his massive frame like living shadows. His chiseled jaw was set in unyielding stone, and his intense, amber eyes were burning with a feral, volatile rage that turned my blood to pure fire. He had discovered my empty bedroom in the palace, and he had tracked my scent straight into the heart of the enemy's territory.
"Who dared to touch what belongs to me?"
Ethan’s voice was a low, gravelly baritone that vibrated so violently through the stone walls that the crystal lanterns overhead began to shatter.
Before Richard or his men could even signal for backup, Ethan moved with terrifying, supernatural speed. He bypassed Richard entirely, his large hand flashing forward to grip the wrist of the enforcer holding the knife to my throat. With a brutal twist, the sound of snapping bone echoed through the cell, and the enforcer screamed in agony as Ethan threw his body against the stone wall like a ragdoll.
"Secure the old man!" Ethan barked toward the doorway.
Instantly, Beta Kael and a squad of elite palace guards poured through the shattered entrance. Kael rushed straight to the back wall, using heavy iron cutters to slice Marcus’s chains and lifting my father gently into his arms to retreat toward the safe military vehicles outside.
Alpha Richard froze, his triumphant grin completely evaporating as he stared at the supreme Lycan ruler standing in his cells. Realizing he was completely outmatched, Richard didn't even try to fight; he scrambled backward into the dark emergency escape tunnels behind the cells, his remaining guards fleeing like rats behind him.
I stumbled backward against the damp stone wall, my chest heaving as I drew in ragged breaths of air. The danger was over. My father was safe. But as I looked up, the relief in my chest was instantly swallowed by a new, suffocating wave of panic.
Ethan turned his predatory gaze slowly toward me
.He didn't move to give me a sweet, comforting hug. He strode across the small cell, his heavy combat boots slamming against the floorboards with a slow, terrifying rhythm until his massive, towering silhouette completely swallowed my light. His amber eyes drilled straight into mine, burning with a possessive, furious heat. He was absolutely livid that I had dared to escape his palace under the dead of night, using wolfsbane to blind his guards.
"You ran," Ethan growled deathly softly, leaning down until his hot breath brushed against the sensitive skin of my cheek, sending a violent shockwave of heat down my spine. His large, calloused hand shot out, his fingers locking firmly around my waist with an inescapable strength that pulled my hips flush against his solid chest. "You thought a few miles of forest could hide a forbidden Luna from her master?"
I lifted my chin, forcing my posture straight and refusing to let him see the wild fluttering of my pulse, though the fated-mate spark was crackling aggressively between our skin. "I was saving my father, Ethan. I am not your prisoner."
A dark, chilling smile touched the corner of his handsome face, his grip on my waist tightening just enough to let me know he was in complete control.
"You are my mate, Aria, and your place is by my side. You are coming back to the palace, and you will never slip out of my arms again."
