Chapter 4

I didn't like seeing Trevor upset, and it pained me that I was the source of it, confusing me. I barely knew this man, yet I felt like he was the only one who could offer me some form of comfort. Trevor gazed at me sadly as he led me out of the hospital, his hand placed on the small of my back as we walked. His eyes watched me intently as I swayed a few times, almost losing my balance. "Il take you home and we can get a room set up for you?" suggested Trevor, raising his thick eyebrows at me, waiting for a response. However, I didn't give him one. I was unsure as to why he wanted me to stay with him. My parernts had never been the affectionate type, and although they were not cruel or unkind, they struggled with expressing their emotions. They had never explained things to me about our kind like I had seen other parents do with their children. I knew the basics about werewolves, but I was mostly left to discover everything on my oWn, learning as I went. I was aware about the topic of wolves finding their soulmates, but details were never given. I often merely thought the concept of them was just a made up fairytaly to keep people holding on to some form of hope that they would one day meet someone they were destined to be with for the rest of their lives. I didn't know how it felt to have a mate, and what the correct protocol to follow was when you did meet, but I couldn't help but wish that someone had explained it to me, even if it was just a big old lie. For a few moments, it scared me that whenever I looked at Alpha Trevor, tingles erupted throughout my body, creating a riot, but I had been isolated for five years- away from my own kind. I was sure it was just my body's reaction to being in the presence of an Alpha after being alone for so many years. His power radiated off of him, and my wolf was intimidated. As we approached a large brick house, I smiled to myself slightly, enjoying the view of the rows of daises dotted outside the large red front door. A comforting feeling flew throughout my veins, the house looking homely and inviting. "I've made sure nobody is home," spoke Trevor as we stepped into the house, the smell of musk and sandalwood wafting over me, and I realised that the front room smelt just like him. "Ill show you to your room." Trevor allowed me to mount the stairs first, hovering behind me just in caseI fell, my legs quivering underneath me. Eventually, I reached the top, my heart beating ferociously and my breathing rate increased, which caused Trevor to growl lowly to himself, clearly frustrated. "This one is yours," he said, pointing to a cream coloured door. "And this one is mine." I followed his gaze, my brown eyes landing on a dark wooden door, right opposite mine. "Oh, thak you," I said nervously, pushing my door open and sighing heavily as I stepped in, becoming overwhelmed with how luxurious and clean the room before me was. The walls were painted a light grey colour, and the furniture was a simple shade of beige, orange features dotted around the room, creating an autumnal feel. The floor was covered with a large fluffy rug, which looked comfy enough to sleep on. However, I couldn't ignore the huge king sized bed placed in the middle of the room, inviting me in with its layers of fuzzy throws and plump pillow. "Your bathroom is in there," said Trevor, gesturing to a door on the other side of the room, right next to the large tall bed. I nodded, perching myself on the edge of it, pulling my oversized T-shirt back up onto my shoulder, not liking the fact that my protruding collarbone had been on show. "Do you have anyone you need to contact, Dora?" asked Trevor, causing me to shrug. "Um, I used to live down on the coast near Veline Quarry. On one of the ranches." Trevor furrowed his brows at me, slightly shaking his head, chewing on his bottom lip as he sighed. "That quarry and everything surrounding it was destroyed years ago, Dora. There's nothing for miles around there." I brought my fingers to my mouth, nibbling on my fingers as anxiety overcame me. Had my parents packed up everything and left? Had they given up looking for me- if they were even looking for me at all in the first place? "Hey, it's okay, I will find them for you. I promise. What are their names?" Asked Trevor as he crouched down in front of me, bracing his hands on my thighs. It caused my breath to get caught in my throat, and I suddenly found it hard to breathe. "Michael and Francesca Miller." "Any siblings?" I shook my head, shrugging. "Im not sure my parents even wanted me.'" At my comment, Trevor growled, his usual hazel eyes becoming darker as he averted them from me, shaking his head. "Please don't say that sweetheart." I gazed up at Trevor, unsure of why he was acting so protective over me. I knew he was Alpha, and they were usually naturally influential and caring creatures, wanting to look after their own. However, I wasn't a part of his pack. Why did he want to look after me? Was he feeling what I was? Was he drawn to me like I was to him? Could he feel the tingles like I did whenever our skin made contact? Or was I overthinking everything and convincing myself that I felt something, when to him, I was just a broken little girl? He was just doing his job and protecting the vulnerable. He was probably doing the exact same for all of the other wolves who were trapped in the lab. He wanted to help us all. "Il give you some time to shower," said Trevor, standing up and making his way over to the door. "There are fresh towels in your bathroom and Ill leave some fresh clothes out for you." I watched him send me a small smile, but after not receiving one back, he sighed, quietly shutting the door behind him. I stayed on the warm bed for a few minutes, enjoying the feeling of how bouncy and plush it was underneath me, being used to sleeping on the hard cold floor of my chamber for years. Running my hands through my long golden hair, I sighed, studying my stitches, feeling anger rise within me that those scientists had ripped me away from my family and subjected me to such torture. But, they were dead. They had got what they deserved. However, I couldn't help but wish that their deaths were slower and mnore painful. It seemed to me like they had all got away with it easily. They deserved to suffer like I had. Suddenly, the door was pulled open and in walked a young girl with jet black hair, pulled up into a high ponytail, her tall and slender body dressed head to toe in black. Lily. "What are you...?" I panicked, pushing myself back on the bed until I was up against the headboard. "Dora, it's okay" soothed Lily, her eyes wide as she held her hands up defensively, making her way to the foot of the bed. "You were there! You were with them!" I voiced loudly, shaking my head. "Shh, Dora, I know, it's-" "No! Im not going back!" I yelled, sliding off the bed and backing up into the corner of the room, grabbing the lamp from the desk. Yanking it from its cord, I threw it across the room, sernding it smashing right up against the wall next to Lily. She gasped loudly, the glass shattering inches from her head. "Trevor!" Lily screamed, attempting to calm me down, but her words sounded like gibberish, going in one ear and out the other. "You can't make me go back," I muttered, shaking my head. Suddenly, Trevor barrelled through the doorway, his eyes wide and frantic. "Trevor, she's freaking out!" exclaimed Lly, chewing on the inside of her cheek, her eyes wide with fear. Trevor approached me slowly, causing me to flinch, shaking my head frantically. "No, get away from me!" I cried, holding out my hands to stop him from coming any closer. "I don't want to go back!" Trevor furrowed his brovws, c*****g his head at me and looking me with confusion in his eyes. "Dora, amore mio. Nobody said anything about you going back to the lab. You're safe." "She should be dead, she was with them!" I cried, dropping to the floor, wrapping my arms around myself as I wished for the floor to swallow me up. Trevor gazed back at Lily, shaking his head, quickly turning back to me and scowling to himself, his chest grumbling with frustration. "Dora, listen to mne. Lily is not a threat to you. She was a spy for me. She's not with the scientists. She's my Beta." I gazed up at them both through blurry eyes, unsure of whether they were telling me the truth or not. "We needed to know everything we could about the lab. Lily posed as an intern there. She helped rescue you, sweethe art," soothed Trevor, making his way over to me and crouching down in front of me. "Lily, why are you still in here? Go!" Lily scurried off after her Alpha's outburst, slamming the door shut behind her, causing me to flinch, avoiding eye contact with Trevor. "Relax, Dora, just breathe. I'm sorry. She can be very nosey. I'm sorry she scared you." I swallovwed harshly, curling up into a ball against the wall, just wanting Trevor to leave me to shower alone, needing to calm down in the comfort of my own company. "Do you want tO get some rest?" asked Trevor, his voice laced with worry. I shook my head, eyeing up my bathroom door, causing Trevor to follow my gaze, nodding to himself. "If you still want to have a shower, go forit Sweetheart." I raised to my feet, waiting for Trevor to stand up as well, taking a step back so I could squeeze past him. I scrried into the bathroom, quickly shutting the door behind me. I gazed at myself in the mirror, sighing heavily, looking at myself through dead and emotionless eyes. I had been allowed to shower every couple of days at the lab, a female scientists escorting me into the shower, timing me for two minutes, giving me enough time to wash off any blood, before throwing me back into my container. Stripping off my dirty blood stained oversized shirt and shorts, I stepped into the shower, instantly turning the water to freezing cold, enjoying the feeling of it. I disliked the idea of a steamy shower, the burning sensation reminding me of some of the tests I had to endure back at the lab.
