Chapter 2: Macaroon

LIAM'S POV*

Mom and I are at the town today to buy my school supplies. Classes will start on Monday.

When we entered the building, wow... there were so many school supplies! I was amazed at everything I saw. There were colorful notebooks, cool pens, and bags with all kinds of designs.

After a while, Mom spoke with a smile, “Oh nak, pili ka na ng gusto mo… Dali!”

I quickly walked around and grabbed the things I liked. I got a blue dinosaur notebook, a rocket-shaped pencil, and a Spider-Man lunchbox. Mom kept asking from behind, “Nak, sigurado ka ba dito?” while looking at the items I chose. Soon, the cart she was holding was full.

“Done na, Ma?” she asked me with a smile.

“Opo,” I answered. Then she pushed the cart to the cashier to pay.

After paying, we went out of the building and Mom called Dad on the phone. A few minutes later, Dad arrived riding a jeep and stopped right in front of us.

“Ano, uuwi na kayo?” Dad asked us.

“Eh bakit, iha-hatid mo na ba kami?” Mama teased.

“Depende sa inyo ah,” Dad replied.

Then Dad added, “Teka, paano kung gala muna tayo?”

### *LUCAS'S POV*

“Maah!” I called out to Mom while she was busy cooking for the guests coming for dinner later.

“Oh, anak? Why, do you need something?” she asked without looking back.

“Ah, Ma, tanong ko lang po… ilang pong tao pupunta dito mamayang dinner?”

“Emm, iwan ko nak. Basta marami yun. Tsaka makipag-friend ka sa mga bata ah,” she said while pinching my cheek.

Suddenly, Dad hugged Mom from behind. “Oh, bango naman! Parang pinaghandaan mo talaga ang mga bisita mamaya ah,” he said with a smile.

“Oo naman, hun hehe,” Mom laughed.

“Akyat muna ako, Ma,” I told her.

“Sige nak, maligo ka mamayang 7:00 ah. Baka dumating na yung mga ibang inimbitaan ko,” she said while turning away.

“Opo, Ma,” I replied with a smile.

I went up to my room. I got my tablet and opened YouTube. A video of a proposal suddenly popped up. A man knelt down and put a ring on another man’s hand.

I frowned at what I saw and went to Google to search: “Can two men get married?”

I was shocked at the result because it said yes, they can.

“Huh?? Pwede yun? Kala ko babae at lalaki lang?” I asked myself.

I put down the tablet and played with my toys until I heard Mom’s voice shouting, “Lucas, nak!!! Maligo ka na! Dumarating na yung bisita natin!”

“Opo, Ma! Maliligo na po!” I shouted back.

After a few minutes, I was done bathing. I was about to get my underwear when I realized I only grabbed a towel. I rushed out of the bathroom…

“AHHHH!!!” I screamed when I saw a kid in my room. I quickly covered my body with the towel.

### *LIAM'S POV*

Mom, Dad, and I walked around the whole town. After a while, Mom suddenly said, “Nako, ngayon pala yun. May dinner mamaya.”

“Oo nga, muntik ko na makalimutan,” Dad agreed.

Because of that, we hurried home. We all took a bath together - as one perfect family. After a few minutes, we were already heading to that girl’s house from this morning.

“Grabe, ang laki ng bahay nila, Ramon,” Mom said while holding Dad’s arm.

“Oh, andito na pala kayo,” the woman said with a smile at me. “Cute talaga ng batang to,” she said while pinching my cheek. “Mula ngayon, Tita Camille tawag mo sakin ah,” she added.

“Come in, you guys. Join the other guests,” the woman invited us.

A few hours passed and I was getting bored. I think it was 6:35 already. Mom and Dad were busy talking to Mr. and Mrs. Von, so I decided to explore. I asked Dad for permission first and he said, “Wag ka lalayo ah.”

“Opo,” I answered.

I was amazed at everything I was seeing for the first time. I ended up in the kitchen and saw cookies in different colors. I took three and asked the man serving, “Ano po tawag dito?”

“This is called macaroon. It’s sweet,” he told me.

I got more excited and filled my pants pocket with them. I continued exploring until I stopped at a door with a Spider-Man sticker. Because I was curious about what was inside, I went in. I was even more amazed…

“Wow, ang daming toys!”

Suddenly, someone screamed, “AHHHH!!!”

I turned to the sound and saw a kid with no clothes on. He was chubby… He quickly covered parts of his body. That’s when I realized I entered a room I shouldn’t have.

Because I was scared he would tell on me, I walked closer to him. At that time, I didn’t know what “hubad” meant… because it was okay with me. Mama used to bathe me like that so it wasn’t in my mind.

Because I was afraid he would snitch, I quickly approached him. I took out the macaroon from my pocket and gave it to him.

“Ito… oh, hati tayo… hehe sorry pumasok ako na walang paalam,” I said while making a cute face like what I do when I make Mom mad so she won’t spank me. “Sabi nung kuya macaroon daw tawag dito at masarap,” I said.

The kid looked at me with hesitation. He didn’t say anything, he just took my hand and pulled me to the bathroom. “Antayin mo ko dyan,” he said then closed the door.

Because I was scared he would tell on me, I just listened. Not long after, the door opened but he was already dressed… and we went downstairs.

On our way to where our parents were, my heart was beating fast because I was scared he would tell. “Emm, pwede wag moko isumbong kina Mama, please?” I said with tears in my eyes. He just looked at me.

But when we reached our parents, he immediately let go of my hand. “Emm, yan okay na. Punta ka na sa mama mo,” he said.

I quickly ran to Mom. “Oh nak, saan ka galing?” Mom asked me.

A moment later, Tita Camille spoke up, “Oh Lucas… aww my baby,” as she hugged me. So she’s Lucas’s mom, I thought.

“Oh Lucas, I want you to meet Tita Lurna and Tito Ramon,” she said while pointing at them. “And btw, this is the boy I was telling you about. His name is Liam. He’s 8 years old.”

“Ahh hi Liam, I’m Lucas,” he said while offering his hand. “Btw I’m 10 years old,” he added. I didn’t know what to do so I just gave him the macaroon with a smile.

I saw him smile back. Then Mom and Dad suddenly laughed. “Mukhang magkakasundo tong mga anak natin, kumpare,” Dad said to Tita Camille’s husband.

“Oo nga pare eh. Sana nga magkasundo para kahit papano eh may kaibigan tong anak ko,” Tito Ramon replied.

The night continued with laughter, drinking, and eating.
