Chapter Eight Meikah was pretty certain she was going to be in a lot of trouble when she went home that afternoon. Not wanting to think about it, she turned to Mace. “What are you meant to tell us?” “Webb doesn’t have any enemies. Or at least none that’d want to pay a necromancer to target him,” Mace said. “Who?” Meikah asked. Mace nodded to the man who continued to pace. “The town guard you saved.” “Oh.” She hadn’t known anything about him, not even his name. “The only thing that stands out is that he was involved in the rescue of a councillor’s daughter last month.” Webb stopped his pacing at Mace’s words. “I keep telling you that wouldn’t have anything to do with it. Hardly anyone knows I was the one who found her.” “It wouldn’t have been hard for them to find out.” Mace grinned
