The last few days have been strange. Xavier has been distant, but I understand he is fulfilling his duties as an Alpha. He must ensure the pack is safe, especially when we are being attacked. Though, I have been struggling. Xavier has kept me locked inside of our room and has had meals delivered to me. I only get to leave when I am with him. So, I was alone.
I was feeling like a prisoner, but at the same time, I understood that he was trying to keep me safe.
I looked forward to when he would return to the room, as then I would have some company. But, his return times have been becoming later and later each day, and he would often be gone by the time I woke up in the morning.
Leigh would come to the door and have a conversation with me on occasion, but it was not the same as being able to see her in person. I thought about asking Xavier if she could have a key so that I would not be as lonely. Seeing how stressed he has been, I decided it would be best if I left it alone.
So, here I sat. I pulled a chair up to look out of the window and watch the birds and other creatures. Oh, how I wish I had that freedom.
I was distracted from the bird that I was watching when I saw Xavier walk outside and into view. He was shirtless and I bit my lip as I saw his beautifully toned body. How I got so lucky, I will never know. My mate is a powerful alpha but is also hot.
As I watched what he was doing, I noticed he was begging to shift into his wolf form. I have never seen him shift before, so I was intrigued. Personally, I have never been able to shift growing up. I should have been able to around the age of 13, but due to my father, it was nearly impossible. You see, being malnourished and being a wolf do not go together well, so my wolf has never been out. Maybe, just maybe, I could talk to Xavier and see if I could try to shift with him sometime. I am sure he would understand the need... Plus, once I moved here, I have become a healthy weight and I think it is time to try.
But for now, I decided to focus on what Xavier was doing, as well as what his wolf looked like. His wolf was pitch black and beautiful. From what I can see, his fur looks as soft as his hair, but as I was so far away I could not be sure.
Soon, he was running off to do god knows what, and I was back to looking at the critters running around.
----
It was around 11 pm, and Xavier still has not come back to our room. I have to admit, I am unsure if he was home. But, I was still up, hoping to see him before I went to bed.
The loneliness was beginning to get to me today. There was very little to do in this room. Sure, I could turn on the television or grab one of the few books there were in the room, but I have been doing just that for the past few days and it was becoming boring.
I heard a small pang and I instantly sat up from where I laid in the bed and looked at the glass door that went to the balcony. I have not been out there as one of the new rules that Xavier has set for me was that I was not to leave this room without him, and that included going out to the balcony.
Slowly, I stood up and turned on the bedroom lights before walking to the glass door. I did not understand why the pang frightened me, as it could have been an animal, but at the same time, it could have been someone.
Slowly, I opened the curtains that covered it and gasped as I saw something taped to the window. It looked to be a note, which means, someone was out there. As I did not see anyone now, I assumed jumped and ran once the light turned on.
I decided to read the words that were visible through the glass.
We will see you soon, Aliya.
-Uncle Kai
I read the short note over and over again, trying to determine if I was reading it right.
Uncle Kai? Like Kai Lightwood, the Alpha of the pack attacking us? Is this why we are being attacked? Was it all because of me?
----
By 1 am, Xavier finally arrived back to the room. I was still awake, purely do the questions running through my head as well as the fear I felt.
"Aliya, what are you still doing up?" Xavier asked me as he walked in.
I looked at him and I bit my lip before responding, "Look at the balcony door," I managed to say, but the words were barely louder than a whisper. He obviously heard, though, as he walked over to the doorway and pulled back the curtains.
He froze for a moment before growling and opening the door to look outside. He bent over and picked something up before taking the note off of the door and walking back in.
When he turned around, I saw what he picked up off of the ground. It was a picture. I stood up and walked over to my mate to look closer. As I saw it, I froze in shock. It was a picture of my mother and a ginger-haired boy, Kai I suppose.
I did not understand why he would leave that here, but I was interested as it is only the second picture I have ever seen of her. I grabbed it from Xavier, and he allowed me to without protest, as I wanted to get a closer look. My mother looked extremely happy in the picture as she stood next to her brother. You could tell they were around the same age, twins potentially. Her hair fell in nice waves that ended right below her shoulders and Kai had a clean cut. Around my mother's neck was the necklace that I wore every day, but to my surprise, Kai wore a similar one, except it contained a dark blue stone whereas my mother's was purple.
A tear fell down my cheek before I looked up at my mate and asked, "what does this mean? Is he.. Is he really my uncle?"
Xavier wiped away the tear and pulled me into a hug, "It appears so. I am sorry, Aliya." He said to me.
"So, I take it the war he is starting, it is to get me. To bring me back to Winter Haven." I meant to ask this, but it came out as a statement as I knew it was true.
"Again, yes. But you have to understand Aliya. I can not allow him to take you from me. You are my mate and losing you is not an option," Xavier explained to me.
I nodded my head and looked up at him after pulling away from the hug slightly, "I understand. I know he is my family, but I do not wish to leave you or go with him." I said after a moment of thought, "You are my mate and have been there for me since I met you. Sure, Kai is my uncle, but from what I have heard about his pack, I do not wish to be apart of it. Plus, after my father, I do not need to know other members of my family."
Xavier smiled softly at me, "I am happy to know you think that. I was worried that you would wish to leave me."
I was shocked at how open Xavier was being. He was admitting that he feared me leaving, "I would never leave you," I said without hesitation.
At this, Xavier lent down and kissed me deeply.
