She got off the phone with Elijah an hour ago. It was going to be dark soon, but she was still outside, sitting on the rocking armchair with her legs stretched out on the table. Beside her were her neighbor's children playing in front of the house. She wished that she was a mother— well she would have been one though if Adolf didn't abuse her till she almost had to bleed to death with a baby in her womb. It was tough for her those years she was with Adolf. He was an example of the devil wearing Prada, the devil in human form. She was a pretty girl who was sweet-talked and then fell hard in love as a result. She was just twenty-one and was coming back from her work as a babysitter. She had finished college earlier, it was just a three-year course. Flashback. Her boots made a clicking sound with each step of her strut on the granite floor, her brown coat buttoned-down, covering her turtle neck top and leather trousers. There was a scarf around her neck and gloves covering her hands. Her bag slung over her shoulder. She was so engrossed with her thoughts that she didn't hear anyone calling out for her until he touched her lightly on her shoulder. "Hey. He was panting as she turned to look at him. "Hi.” She replied coldly, but the stranger didn't seem to mind. "I'm sorry for bothering you, but if you can spare me some minutes to talk to you like a friend, I'd appreciate it.” He said as he gestured for her to follow him to the restaurant for a cup of coffee and snacks. Shrugging, she agreed to go with him. After all, she needed the distractions to get her mind off the stress. That night they'd clicked off as if they'd known each other for a very long time. Adolf was a type of guy every girl dreamed of, lanky, funny, easy-going, and every good thing a girl wanted, but he was a very hot temperamental person. Unfortunately, she never saw that side of him until he had proposed to her and she started living with him. Adolf was always there for her, in her weakest days, he was there, he was always there whenever she needed him. He was her soulmate, or so she had thought then. The first time he had hit her, she thought he would never do it again. She took the blame, because she did what she thought was normal. "I was too tired to prepare dinner but I ordered some pizza." She had told him and felt the stinging slap on her cheek. Her eyes saw stars. The funniest part was that every time Adolf hit her, he would storm out of the house angrily and come back the next day reeking of alcohol and smelling like s*x. Later that day, he took her out and bought some expensive stuff for her. And that made Adrianna smile, as she took a sip of her orange juice. She remembered when she told him she was pregnant. The following week, he beat the life out of her because she had put up a fight with him and told him that he cheated a lot and usually had too much to drink as he’d get drunk. She didn’t let him leave the house that night. Having said all that, he slapped her hard and she fell on the chair. "I'm pregnant Adolf!" She screamed at him but he was adamant and so he hit her more and left, leaving her all by herself. She had managed to get her phone to dial 911. She lost her pregnancy and had to use crutches for a while. Adolf was lucky she didn't press charges against him. She moved out of his house, and never saw him again. Two years with Adolf was something she never wanted to experience again, as she never for once thought she would be in an abusive relationship, getting hit for no good reason. Not that there was anything that would make one’s partner hit them though. It was a year after she moved on with her life when she met Elijah, the CEO of a marketing company. It took her three months to finally agree to be with him. And he was so patient, even when he found out about her ex-fiance, he didn't look down on her. He loved her dearly. Flashback end. "Ugh! I'm tired!" She muttered as her mind wandered away from her thoughts about her lover, then she noticed her neighbor walking towards her direction. "Hi Adrianna." She greeted her, hugging her cardigan even closer to her body as the evening was quite chilly. "Hi Savannah." She replied softly. "What's up?" "I'm good, I saw you sitting here and you were looking like you were off Earth." She chuckled. "Really?" Adrianna smiled. “Well, maybe I was, but I'm back now." She gave a genuine smile. "Well, I could use the time here with you before heading inside with the kids." Savannah saw her daughter picking something on the floor and throwing it at her brother. "Darla, don't you do that, now apologize to your brother." She yelled at the four-year-old girl. "Its okay mum, we're just playing." The six-year-old brother replied, defending his sister to their mother who had turned her attention back to Adrianna. "These kids are a handful these days." Savannah groaned. "Yeah," She replied, smiling half-heartedly. "But they're a beautiful creation." Adrianna replied. The next question threw her off guard. "Who was that guy that made you scream out loud?" "What?" Her smile was starting to fade off . “What do you mean?" "Adrianna, you know what I'm talking about. He f****d you so hard, I almost had to come to knock on your door, but I saw Mrs. Braham and I had to head back inside. She heard the moaning and screaming too." She said, gesturing with her hands. She was short of words, rubbing her forehead and blinking rapidly, she heaved a sigh. "Savannah, that was the plumber guy. He went to fix something in the kitchen and the cupboard. He's so hot and I was horny, so we fucked." Slamming her hand on the table, Savannah spoke. "Can you listen to yourself right now, what the f**k was that, are you saying you can't keep yourself till Elijah comes back?" She paused and rubbed her palms over her face. “God! That was so wrong of you. I'm your friend Adrianna, we go way back from high school, and I'd be honest with you, what you did was wrong." "I'm sorry, it will never happen again. I didn't know what I was thinking, I—” Savannah interrupted her. "Shut up, it has happened and do not let it happen again. What you should be thinking about now is having your own kids, you and your man ain't getting younger anymore." Savannah concluded, sipping the juice from her friend's cup. She called out to the children to go inside the house. Standing up, she hugged Adrianna and held her tight. "I love you girl and I don't want you to lose a good man like Elijah, and let’s hope that Mrs. Braham doesn't tell your husband." "I'll visit her tomorrow." They both laughed and went into their houses.
