An hour later, Iris sat there looking at me as if she has seen a ghost. “I—I am sorry” she said. “Very sorry. I shouldn’t have made you remember all that” she said.
“Don’t worry. It’s been almost two years. I’m fine now” I said.
She kept staring at me for a few seconds before speaking. “Why did you open up this much to me”
“Uhh…Because you asked” i said and added. “And I just felt I could tell you”
She nodded with a somewhat sad smile.
“Can we be friends” she asked.
“Yeah” I answered casually.
“Yeah….?”
“Yes we can” I said. “Good”.
“Please take care of her for me” Iris’ mother said to me on the phone, on our way back home. Iris had been discharged a few hours after our little trip to memory lane, with some drug prescriptions. “So…are you going to visit me regularly for check ups like I am a baby” Iris asked.
“What do you mean” I asked, with my eyes fixed on the busy road. “Well, the doctor said this can come back anytime and I need attention and my mom just asked you to take care of me” she said. “So are you going to treat me like a princess??” She added with a smile.
“What?!” I said, laughing. Just then, something popped into my mind and I thought of it for a few seconds before voicing it out. “How about you come stay with me” I suggested.
she looked at me straight for a few seconds. And I immediately felt bad for suggesting.
“No, I meant just for a few days. Till we know you’re okay….but never mind” I said.
“okay. Let’s do that. But first I need to get a few things.” I said.
“ I thought I said ‘never mind’.”
“Uhh…I mind actually. So….we’re going to your house. Good” she replied with a sweet smile.
