The rest of the night was a haze. I remember snippets—the warmth of her touch, the softness of her voice, the way her eyes seemed to draw me in.
When I woke up the next morning, the sunlight streaming through the window was far too bright. My head throbbed, and my mouth felt like sandpaper.
And then I noticed Iris lying beside me, her hair splayed across the pillow.
My heart sank. “wtf did I do?” I thought. But surprisingly, when I looked around, we were in my room instead of the guest room in the Bach residence.
I spent the entire morning replaying the events of the previous night, trying to piece together what had happened.
Then I realized we had decided to come over to my place at a last minute before anything happened. I couldn’t remember the rest but I knew whatever happened between us, happened in my room.
Iris woke up eventually, her expression a mix of awkwardness and something else I couldn’t quite place.
“Good morning,” she said softly, her voice tentative.
“Morning,” I replied, sitting up and running a hand through my hair. “We… need to talk.”
She nodded, and for the first time, I saw a vulnerability in her that I hadn’t noticed before.
“I didn’t mean for this to happen,” she said. A brief moment of silence passed before she spoke again.
“But I don’t regret it.”
Her words hung in the air, heavy and charged. I didn’t how to reply or what to say.
What Now?
That day marked the beginning of something I wasn’t prepared for. I had spent so much time building walls around myself, convinced that I didn’t need anyone. But Iris had found a way to slip through the cracks, and now, I had to figure out what that meant for both of us.
I was lost on whether to let her in Or push her away like I had done with everyone else.
It felt dangerous….she felt dangerous. I knew it was only a matter of time and I had to decide….
