Chapter Three: The Virus

1422 Words
Lady Vanora roamed round the halls. It was a habit of hers to check all corners of the mansions...all corners she could access though... She walked around, checking all the maids and making sure the maids kept themselves busy. She was like the Stewardess of the house, and she liked her job. Lord Cordias was just paying his debt after all. Passing through the labyrinth of corridors, she froze, hearing a shrill scream tearing through the air. She knew she heard that piercing sound. Did a maid get injured?? But no maid is permitted on the third floor of the mansion. She felt beads of sweat go down her face. She proceeded deeper into the labyrinth and knew she was coming close to the hall, the room the lady was being kept in. She felt the heat already, although she knew the door is properly closed. Going forward in to the hall, she let out a scream. The lady lay on the floor, disoriented. She suddenly didn't know what to do. Running, she went down the hall and through the labyrinth and straight to Cordias' office. Taking a deep breath, she knocked in the door. After a while, she heard a command from inside the room, and she entered, and spotted the Grand Emperor. She immediately fell to her knees and kept her head on the floor. "I greet you my Lord." She said , feeling the commanding presence of the Emperor. Medito just chuckled. "Get up Lady Vanora. I'm warmed by your greetings. What seems to be the matter? You don't always walk on your master's door." Medito asked, and the lady got up, and took in a deep breath. "I was going through the halls and checking the place, just how I do...then I came to the door of the room the lady was kept...and then... I heard a scream. I saw her outside the room, on the floor." She watched the facial expressions on the faces of the two men gradually change. "My Lord! Lady Cupid and the Doctors of the South...they are here!" A guard passing by, saw the door open and announced the news to the men and Lady Vanora as well. "Arrange a room for the doctors. Inform Lady Cupid to meet me in the room and take the best and most experienced doctors in with her to the room. Make sure to get the lady back to the bed. I'm be there in a minute." Cordias said and stormed out of the room, going towards the direction of the lady. The Emperor was still sipping his tea. He was surprisingly calm. He just muttered some words. "I'm be coming soon." Medito said to Lady Vanora, and she nodded, remaining at a standstill. She now understood it was her cue to leave. ***** Doctors all marched to the room, led by Lady Cupid. She was undeniably beautiful. She had black hair, which a horn that surprisingly had horns. She had a beautifully sculpted face, and small sharp eyes. Long, black lashes and a plump face. A little pair of glasses on her face. And God those lips....Every man's desire. She was of average height, wearing a white medical coat, with a black gown underneath. The coat couldn't hide her natural figure, as she looked like a model. They approached the lady on the floor. Wearing gloves and other neccesities, they carried her back to the bed. Surprisingly, she was a light as air. Too light. They began testing her out, blocking outsiders for entering the room. After what seemed like forever, they finally came out, Cupid leading the way. "She's awake. You can come in, buy please keep a safe distance. Immediate touch transfers the virus." Lady Cupid said, and the Emperor nodded. He entered the room, and after a long time, he could finally see the lady take in breathes of life. She looked too pale now that she was awake. Her eyes were red and sullen, and her hand shaking now and then. Medito just watched her from a safe distance and made a conclusion in his head. She looks pathetic. I wonder how she'll survive this. Suddenly, Cordias ran into the room. "Mister Cordias...keep your distance!!!" The man never listens to anyone. Cordias made it through the room and to the girl's bed. It seemed like she couldn't notice his presence as she looked straight ahead, with red bulging eyes. It seems like the girl wasn't even aware of her surroundings at all. She seemed to be a daze. "Ivory!!! You're finally awake!!!" Cordias shouted as he sank in the mattress, his hands tempted to caress her body. She didn't react. She just starrd ahead. "Ivory?? Can you hear me?" Cordias asked once again but n he got no response. "Ivory?" He called her, grabbing her fingers. To the surprise of all, she reacted. She withdrew her hands immediately. "She can't understand anything that's going on right now. I'm even surprised she reacted to your touch. She's passing through alot of pain. The virus has almost broken her down. Hee sensory organs are failing. And her eyesight-" "I think we should stop reminding Cordias of the his illness. It'll make him think, especially now that she's awake. Have you gotten the vaccine??" Medito interrupted Cupid firmly, concerned for the emotional well-being of his superior. Cordias looked like a lost child right now. "We haven't her the vaccine. But we will do so know. She'll need a proper now and good nutrition. It'll take her months before she'll get mobile and a while before she can communicate." Cupid explained and Medito yawned. He was tired. "I understand. Our prime importance now is to make sure she heals. She's awake now, so we have dealt with half of our problem. And please, immediately have Cordias tested...he might have contacted something nasty." Medito instructed and all the doctors bowed in unison. Medito left the room, and the doctors all started doing their thing. Cordias?? He was in another world all together. He didn't hear one thing that was going on. Cordias just looked at the lady. He didn't know how to feel. Happy? Not really. She hasn't fully recovered. Sad? Not really. She has finally woken up. Frustrated? Yeah. She would take months to heal. He couldn't wait that long. Teary? Yeah. He wanted to kiss this woman, but he could not. He hated that void expression she held on her face. She wasn't angry, but it seems like she had a straight, frightening expression on his face. She looked oddly distant. He remembered how she felt a few minutes ago. Her body was real hot. He just looked at her. He didn't know that Lady Cupid had been trying to get his attention. "Mister Cordias...You need to leave this lady. And I need to run a check up. Please step aside." Lady Cupid said, and Cordias finally 'came back to Earth'. He stepped aside as they did their thing. Soon enough, they checked him,and said they would come with the results the next day. They locked the door and Lady Cupid took the keys. Just in case Cordias would try to behave stupid. "Don't worry Mister Cordias. She will be fine soon." Lady Cordias said her final words and left. Cordias still looked at the door. He other half was awake. And he couldn't connect with her. Giving out a frustrated sigh, he left for his room. Meanwhile, the halls were silent while the doctors marched off to the exit of the mansion. Maids had them stop for a quick meal, and with a final bidding from the visiting emperor, they boarded carriage, sitting 4 per carriage. And there were 10 carriages in number. Last Cupid, wiping her glasses, dropped them in her case. Her face held a disturbed look. It seemed like there were details that she didn't disclose to the men in the mansion. One of the doctors noticed her facial expression and desired to ask her a question. She knew this wasnt really the best time, but she knew Cupid wouldn't really mind. "Lady Cupid...what is that lady to Cordias exactly? To get a man to spend that much resources to get a vaccine for a WOMAN is something quite unheard of." The man asked and Cupid seemed quite quiet all of a sudden. Not like she was talking but... She seemed too quiet. Felt too quiet. "I can't give you details...but just know that he loves her with all his heart."
