Ember POV
"You hardly talk. Is this the way you relate with your friends back at your pack?" she asked, trying not to sound offensive. I suddenly felt sad, remembering that all my friends were dead.
"I'm sorry," she apologized, catching on to my emotion.
"It is okay," I responded.
"Not really," I answered her earlier question. Despite her constant smiling, Alpha Valtor had introduced her as a Gamma, which I found hard to believe. She looked tired, with an innocent and weak appearance, as if she were as weak as me.
"I am surprised you are a Gamma," I said, my thoughts spilling out.
"You know, I am as surprised as you," she replied, yawning. "I don't know what Alpha Valtor sees in me that made him make me a Gamma. A position I never deserve."
"I can barely pass for an Omega," she added.
"Have a seat," I said, tapping the space beside me. She sat down.
"So, you stick to healing instead?" I continued.
"Yes," she said. "What about you? How strong are you?" She asked, staring into my eyes with curiosity.
"I am as weak as you," I admitted. "Well, maybe even weaker."
Her curiosity was piqued. "Why did you say that?"
"I can't even shift during a full moon," I replied, frustration creeping into my voice. "I'm unable to transform."
She offered words of comfort. "It's okay. We're in this together because I am as weak as you. We will find a way to help your wolf shift during the full moon." Her voice was filled with hope.
"Thanks," I said.
"You're welcome," she responded.
"So, you haven't answered my earlier question," she pressed on. "Are you Alpha Valtor's mate?"
I decided to open up, feeling more comfortable around her. "Yes, I am," I admitted. "I was chosen instead of the bride he was supposed to have."
Her face lit up with a bright smile. "Wow, that's amazing to hear!"
"Thank you," I replied.
"You're welcome," she said. "Thanks for clearing up the confusion too."
"Don't mention it," I replied.
"I was expecting Alpha Valtor's arrival with Harriet, but then he arrived with you, which is why I was surprised," she explained.
"It's great to know that I cleared it up," I said.
"Does the wound still sting?" she asked.
"A bit," I replied.
"Being with Alpha Valtor can help get rid of the pain because of the bond you now share," she stated.
Harriet POV
"Wow," I exclaimed in shock, staring at the mansion that dwarfed the Fire mansion.
"This is your new home," he replied.
"Thanks," I murmured, still in awe. "Is this a pack mansion?"
"Yes, you'll meet many werewolves, including your cousin," he replied. I smiled sadly.
"I'll take my leave to my pack," Harry said.
"Okay, I'll ask one of my guards to take you home," Uncle Bob replied.
"Thanks, sir," Harry said.
"I know it's still soon, but once you and Harriet want to get married officially, I'll stand in for my brother," Uncle Bob declared.
"Thanks, Uncle," I replied.
Valtor POV
Willow read from a book. "Sheller... an underworld organization that recruits by k********g or purchasing children aged 15 and below, experimenting on them, and training them to be assassins or carry out difficult tasks that may involve killing."
"It would have been better if Ivy were here, but she's always tired," I said. The others laughed.
"I'm tired, I can't fight, I only love to treat," Rho declared. Everyone laughed.
Trust me, if Ivy and Rho were to fight each other, I don't know who would win. If Rho is careless around her, judging from the fact that she fights using battle strategy and rarely makes a wrong move without thinking, he would be outmaneuvered.
"It's good to see you smile, even if it's a bit, Willow," I said. She smiled sadly.
"Read further," I instructed.
"Anyone can hire them as long as they have money," she continued. "And from our sources, we've learned that their undercover boss assures those who hire them that even if the target is as strong as an Alpha, they'll be killed."
"Yes, I admit that," I replied.
"Judging from how strong every single one of them is when we face them, if they were to attack here, I hate to say this, but we'll feel the impact," Rho declared.
"It is also safe to say. They have more stronger Shellers who were not deployed to attack us," I declared thoughtfully.
"That's more like you, brother. You don't underestimate," Willow declared with a hint of admiration.
"Yeah. We should think like that and prepare ourselves for the worst," I replied gravely.
"We need to start digging into Shellers - what they do, where they dwell, and all."
"Okay, your majesty," Rho and Ravan chimed in unison.
"Not only that. I want you to dig into who hired the Shellers to dispose of me. We need to dispose of them first before they can attack us again, which may result in the more loss of our loved ones," I added resolutely.
"We will do just that. Leave the digging into Shellers to me," Rho declared confidently.
"I will look into the bastards' pack who dared to attack my Alpha," Delta Ravan declared fiercely.
"Rho, I need you to work with Delta George," I instructed.
"Okay, King," he replied, as I elaborated further for reminder. "He is our IT genius. He may be able to dig deep, track, and look into it using technology."
"Okay, Your Majesty," he replied obediently.
"What should I do myself?" Willow asked curiously.
"You don't need to do anything," I replied reassuringly. "Your specialty is not yet needed."
"Okay, brother... and, like you may have figured out, I will definitely look into it and report to you," she replied, her voice laced with determination.
"I will pay the Luna a visit now," she announced, her words making my heart skip a beat.
"For what?" I asked, attempting to sound calm.
"Just to greet her," she replied nonchalantly. "And tell her I'm currently cool with her." Her words brought me a sense of relief.
"Okay, everyone is dismissed," I declared.
"Let's head there together, Willow," I continued. "I want to check how she's blending into our new environment."
We all out walked together, heading in that direction.
Rho requested to follow me, raising a valid point about needing to discuss the Wolfsbane poison with Ivy. "I want to make her aware of the poison, fill her in on the incidents we've faced, and talk her into creating an antidote for it," he had explained.
"Hello, this is Rho. I collected your number from Doctor Samuel," he said into the phone.
"I'm listening," was the faint reply from the other end.
"I want to purchase as many Silverleaf packs as you have," Rho stated.
"Silverleaf is available, but do you know how much each pack costs?" the voice on the other end replied.
"Money is not the issue," Rho responded. "Send me the pack numbers you're willing to sell and the total amount. We'll pay you." With that, he ended the call.
We arrived at Ember's quarters, and I entered without knocking. Ember and Ivy immediately rose to their feet. I scanned the room, noticing Ivy's advanced medical box. Ember's eyes were cast downward, avoiding direct eye contact. She seemed nervous.
"Ember, how are you settling in?" I asked.
"Okay," she replied hastily.
"How does Ivy treat you? Is she entertaining, boring, or annoying?" I asked, prompting Ivy to chuckle.
"Who knows, maybe tired," I added sarcastically.
"Okay," Ember replied.
"Okay is not the right way to respond to my words," I said.
"I'm sorry," Ember apologized.
"I got this," Willow said to me as she intervened, walking towards Ember and grasping her hand. "I am cool with you now. At least I'm happy my brother brought a very beautiful lady."
"As long as you don't betray him, hurt him, or sell him out to other packs, you don't have me to worry about," Willow added.
"I won't dare," Ember replied, finding her voice.
"Okay, Luna. I'll believe you," Willow said, and I found myself smiling behind my mask.
"Ivy, did you notice what I'm noticing?" Willow asked, turning to Ivy.
"Definitely, Beta," Ivy replied.
"You'll need to work on the food she eats," Willow said. "We can't let anyone, inside or outside our pack, disrespect her because of her appearance, which looks like it's caused by malnutrition."
"I'm sorry," Ember apologized.
"It's okay," I reassured her. "You didn't have control over what you ate in your former pack."
Willow excused herself, leaving the room. Rho turned to Ivy, his expression serious. "Let's talk about something outside, Ivy."
"Can't it wait till tomorrow?" Ivy replied, sounding tired.
"It can't wait," Rho insisted, his annoyance evident. He walked over to Ivy, dragging her out by the hand, leaving me alone with Ember, who stared down at the floor yet again, playing with her finger nervously.
