This new motion offense takes time to learn. That much is clear when the season opener at Milford rolls around. We throw away passes like crazy, committing twenty turnovers in a horrible display of basketball. Most of the time, the guys aren’t sure where they’re supposed to be on the court. Everyone moves tentatively, not with the smooth precision the offense requires. Some guys even run into each other making cuts.
We lose 46-36. Defense is the only reason we stay reasonably close.
“You saw for yourself tonight how defense keeps you in games when the shooting is off or the offense isn’t clicking,” Coach Antonelli says. “It’s a constant. That’s why we emphasize it in practice.”
