Actually, Wilbur Cross isn’t the consensus No. 1. The state coaches’ poll has Cross No. 1, but the state sportswriters’ poll picks Hartford Public High. Both teams are undefeated, but they can never meet in the state tournament because Cross plays in the large school division, Class L, while Public, one of the biggest schools in the state, plays in Class LL.
