Mike was lying up against the cab of the truck holding his wife Cindy tight in his arms. He could see that she was only getting worse by the color of her skin and the yellow of her eyes. She was in and out of consciousness most of the time and nobody noticed this but him. If they had, she would more than likely have been left behind and that wasn’t going to happen. “Mike,” Cindy faintly whispered. He looked down at her with a smile. “What is it, dear?” “I don’t feel so good.” She coughed. “See.” She showed him the blood in her hand. “I’m only getting worse and don’t want to become one of those things.” “You’re not going to, I promise.” “Then do something about this, Mike.” “We will when we get you to a real doctor.” Cindy reached up and touched his face. “You know better than that,”
