Cathy woke up with a start, her blue eyes frantically searching the room. Seconds ticked by, and her heart rate increased. An alarm started to ping, and she looked for the source of the noise. She was in a hospital bed, and her room was empty. A nurse bustled into the room, “Oh, you’re awake. That’s a good sign. Can you tell me what happened to you, dear?” The nurse fidgeted with the blood pressure machine as she spoke. Cathy licked her dry lips, “Can I get something to drink?” The nurse nodded, “Yes, of course. I’ll be back in a little bit. Your call light is on the bed rail; don’t try to get out of bed until the doctor has seen you.” Cathy sighed and wondered what had happened.
