Lucian
As I pace back and forth in the dimly lit shed, the only sound is the creaking of the floorboards beneath my feet. The musty smell of neglect fills the air, adding to the tense atmosphere. My arms are crossed tightly behind my back, my jaw clenched in frustration. The six men before me shift uncomfortably, their eyes fixed on the ground as if trying to avoid my gaze.
I can sense their shame, their guilt hanging heavy in the air like a dark cloud. Anger bubbles within me, threatening to spill over at any moment. "Why have you failed me?" I growl, my voice low and menacing. The men flinch at my words, knowing they have disappointed me. Their silence speaks volumes, each one unable to meet my eyes.
I stop pacing and stand before them, my presence looming over them like a shadow. "You were given a task, a simple task, and you have failed me," I continue, my voice cold and unforgiving. "There will be consequences for your incompetence." The men exchange nervous glances, knowing that they are about to face my wrath.
“Alpha, we…tried -” One of them speaks. “And who might you be?” As I narrow my eyebrows at his unfamiliar presence, I can't help but question him. Before he has a chance to answer, I notice his lip trembling slightly as my cold, piercing gaze falls upon him.
“Lucian, we tried to get inside, but the entire area has been patrolled by your uncle,” Ryder mentions, and as he finishes speaking, I growl once again, my voice is firm and filled with anger. “He is not my uncle!”
As I turn around, my back facing the six men, they all begin to leave one by one, except for Ryder. I take a deep sigh as Ryder approaches me and stands next to me. He utters, "You need to chill out. This might not be easy for you, Lucian. And all of us are here for you." I turn my attention towards him, facing him with the confidence I have been raised with. "You don't understand, Ryder. I am supposed to be next in line. They cannot steal away what’s rightfully mine!"
Ryder soothes me, speaking in a hushed tone, "Firstly, you must calm yourself, alright?" After a brief pause, he continues, "Your father's dying wish was for you to have a child. If you were to show strength through your offspring, everyone would acknowledge you as their alpha." I raise my head proudly and assert, "I am still their alpha. I just need to claim my rightful place." Ryder scoffs and taunts me, saying, "And how do you plan to achieve that without a pack? You must first assemble your loyal followers. Then, you can confront your rivals."
Ryder may have a point. I am beginning to grasp the meaning behind his words. "What if I send Grace to your room?" he suggests. As he finishes speaking, I narrow my eyebrows at him, giving him a scrutinizing look, and he bursts into laughter.
Ryder and I hop on our bikes as we leave the hood, revving through the empty roads of Lafayette. I was destined to rule the city as the alpha of the Shade pack, Lucian Shade. They refer to me as the dark master, a ghost rider, and a ripper wolf.
After my father’s death, which is not so tragic, my uncle Gabriel seized control of the pack to kill me. With my loyal ones at my side, I escape from my own home in order to establish a new pack that will assist me in reclaiming my rightful position. Gabriel has no authority to strip me of my birthright, and despite my regret for not paying attention to my father's words, I remain steadfast in my belief that one day I will exact vengeance upon Gabriel.
As I rev onto the neglected nighttime roads, feeling the cool wind against my face, memories of my life when my father was alive flood back. I was a reckless and ruthless wolf in the pack, and my father guided me in my training to become the alpha. They describe my anger as sharp as a knife, capable of cutting through a person's heart, but I disagree. My anger is of a different kind - the kind that allows me to hold a person's heart in my palm, watching it wither slowly before I crush it completely.
Other wolves from different packs, and even some from my own, used to mock me for my dual identity as an alpha and a biker. They found it odd, but for me, it was a form of passion. Riding brings me a sense of peace, allowing me the time to reflect, regulate my emotions, and strategize against Gabriel. I consider myself fortunate that Gabriel has no offspring to potentially succeed me.
Upon my return to the shed, I find Grace standing at the door, patiently awaiting our arrival.
As the bikes come to a stop, I quickly get down and stride over to Grace, sensing the tension in her expression. "Gracie, what's wrong?" I inquire. She reveals that a location has been secured for all of us. "Why does that concern you?" I ask as we enter the shed. Taking a seat on the couch, I listen intently as she elaborates, "Alpha, your stepbrother Victor has returned and is now aligned with Gabriel."
My jaw tightens in fury upon hearing about Victor. That bastard has been competing with me for dominance ever since he joined the Shade pack. His envy has escalated over the years, and now that I have fled, his route to becoming an alpha has become unobstructed. Everyone is trying to chase the title, but deep down, I am confident that I am the one truly worthy of carrying on my father's legacy.
With a heavy sigh, I instruct Grace, "Keep a vigilant watch on him and report his every move to me." Grace nods in understanding, aware of her connections within the pack. She has secret wolves who provide her with updates and information.
