THE DAY’S FIRST MATCH ended abruptly when a contestant was decapitated by another. The ear-shattering chorus of warriors shouting to warn the guardians of heaven that a warrior was coming home was followed by swift action on the part of the Council of Judges to rule in the event. For the first time in the tournament, a warrior was disqualified and discredited for an overt act of aggression. In a short, but poignant ceremony, the Warrior was exiled from the island in dishonor and disgrace.
In what was explained later as having been a strange quirk of coincidence and nothing more, the ship carrying this warrior off the island suffered a catastrophic fire, resulting in the loss of all hands.
