FABIA’S OPERATION WAS completely clandestine. So much so that Aurelia’s normally very suspicious nature was lulled into acceptance where the woman she saw as just another aide or co-conspirator was concerned. This was in part because of the very thorough nature of Frumentarii training and planning, and part because of the woman herself. It is interesting that in every aspect of her service to Aurelia, except where mission priorities prevailed, Fabia was completely loyal to her superior, even to the point of death if necessary. Perhaps that is what in the end made her so convincing in her role as Aurelia’s aide while all the time reporting her activities back to her superiors at Frumentarii headquarters.
