Chapter 7

"Jade, leave me alone before I am forced to smack you," I said trying to focus on my book, "Aren't you here to study?"

"Listen, honey," Jade put her arm over my shoulder, "studies can be done later, i********: gotta be checked right now."

She was showing me pictures of all the guys who she thought were hot in our school.

"Well for me studies must be done instantly," I said trying out my horrible puns, "get it? Get it? Insta? Like instan-"

"Ok, I got it!" Jade said cutting me off, "by the way, what's your plan for tonight?"

"Bbs: breathe, blink and study," I smiled.

After almost failing my test, I had learned better than to sleep in class and end up studying the wrong chapter.

"No seriously, listen, there is a charity dance night in our school," Jade said.

"There is an event in our school that I don't know of?!" I almost shouted, shocked.

"Shut up Liz, you never know what goes on around in the school, other than the f*****g math club and science lab," Jade said and I nodded in agreement.

"Touché," I said smiling.

I wasn't going to pretend to be involved in school activities that I actually never even cared about.

"So... wanna go?"

"I don't think so, dance means dress, dress means shopping, shopping means walking and I ain't walking for s**t, thank you," I said.

"Problem solved," Jade smiled.

She unplugged her phone out of the charger and tapped the screen a few times before putting it against her ear.

"Hey Mindy, can you let Leslie borrow the white dress that you bought the last time we went shopping?" Jade spoke on her phone. She was talking to Mindy, her older sister.

"Thanks," Jade said "Oh! oh! and can you also get my light pink dress out from the closet. I'm gonna be late for the dance... thanks," with that, she hung up and squealed before hugging me really tightly.

"I don't like dresses," I whined. "and aren't these charity dance nights for couples and s**t?" I asked, really not wanting to go.

I honestly would love to spend time with Jade but the whole dressing up like a girly girl just didn't fit in my comfort zone.

"Don't make excuses, now; and about the whole couple thing, you can go there with friends too."

I frowned when I realized That I had run out of excuses and choices other than to go with her.

Before I knew it, I was dragged out of my house and thrown into a car.

"Ha! You're cute, you thought I'd wear that," I said sarcasm overflowing in my voice.

"Too bad, you don't have a choice," Jade said as I planted my butt on her bedside as she kept looking at the white dress that she was holding.

"First of all, too girly for me. Second of all, I'm not into this whole slow dancing and s**t. And finally, I'm gonna look lonely as f**k over there while you will be hitting on every single boy without a date," I listed my excuses once again hoping to change her mind.

"Blah blah blah, stop complaining about everything," she said picking up a brush from her makeup kit, "come here so I can cake up your face with makeup."

"Ok, I'm officially scared now..." I said. I hated putting on makeup on my face.

"Get yo big a*s here!" Jade yelled making me look at my butt before gasping.

I went and took a seat on her dressing table, "for your information, I do not have a big butt."

"Close your eyes," she instructed me and I slowly closed them. She ran a fluffy brush over my face, some bristles of the brush tickled my nose and I sneezed twice like a pig.

"Really sexy..." Jade retorted sarcastically making me slap her arm.

After about 10 minutes of painting on my face, Jade was finally done, "ok, open your eyes now."

I did as she said and turned around to face the dressing table mirror and... it didn't make me look much different. I didn't have a lot of makeup on, most of it was eye makeup and some bronzer, or whatever they call the thing you put on your cheeks.

"Tada?" Jade suggested and I thanked her for keeping the makeup light, "Ok, don't mess anything up now, go put on the dress."

"Right.. the dress," I hesitated for a second but then I took the dress and went to her bathroom, the dress took me 5 minutes to put on. While I was in the bathroom, I pulled myself together. I told myself to be excited about this and engage in a social event for once. For Jade, for myself.

I walked out of the bathroom and twirled around, smiling.

I couldn't help but appreciate that the dress wasn't as itchy as some dressed I've had to wear in the past.

Jade squealed and that was the time my ears gave up on me. "Oh my god! Oh my god! Oh my god! This dress looks perfect on you. I am so proud of myself for making your ugly a*s look so beautiful."

"Jade, don't make me come out there," I laughed as I looked at the mirror trying to adjust my dress. After that, I went and took a seat on Jade's queen sized bed.

She wore a black mini dress and neutral colored makeup, similar to mine but with more color on her eyelids. I was feeling a bit more excited about this event now. It was sort of an adventure, get out of comfort zone and do something different. And I was almost always up for adventures.

I kept on saying positive things to myself, and it helped.

"I thought you were going to wear pink," I asked Jade while she sat next to me.

"I'm not feeling very pink today. I thought you didn't like being girly, but you don't seem to mind it very much now," She said the last part while wiggling her eyebrows.

"I'm still a tomboy, just stepping out of my comfort zone for some time. And don't blame me for being this way, if it weren't for you I wouldn't even step out of my house like this," I said looking at a fake diamond bracelet that was reflecting the light coming from the lamp. "can I take these earrings out? They are tugging on my earlobes," I complained which caused a groan to escape her mouth.

"Listen, Miss, I worked hard on making you look like a girl, don't go all tomboy on me right now," she said fixing my earrings, "these earrings are not heavy, you feel that way because you are not used to them."

I groaned.

"C'mon, we're getting late," she whined and I got up to fix my dress.
