Chapter 1

Beep. beep. beep. beep. The alarm went off and yup, like always, I pressed the snooze button 3 times as far as I recall. And before I even knew it, I was late to school. I groaned at myself, thinking about the test I had the first period and how I would fail badly if I was late to class. I lazily walked to the bathroom and took a quick shower. As usual, I put on my sweatpants and a sweatshirt, it was chilly outside so I let my hair down and decided to top it off with a black beanie. I went downstairs to the dining room and saw a waffle on a plate. Without taking a seat or pouring the syrup on, I took a bite and left the rest of it on the plate. Then, I was out of the house in no time. I stood at the bus stop for 2 minutes, feeling the cold wind tickle my cheeks. I loved winter but at the same time, I hated it. I was getting impatient until I saw a familiar car pull up near the sidewalk where I stood and it came to a complete stop. I peeked inside the passenger window, to see the driver of the vehicle. "Hey, Andrew!" A grin replaced my utterly impatient face. "Sup, Liz?" he flashed his pearly whites, and the car door was pushed open, "Hop in!" I slid myself into the passenger seat after stuffing my heavy backpack into the backseats. "How's this morning treating you?" he asked with his eyes on the windshield. He called me Liz along with a lot of people at my school. We called him Andy. He had dirty blonde hair bowling his head, blue eyes with a big sparkle always there and a smile formed on his thin lips. A genuine smile and not a 'smirk' that made you want to smack it right off. "With chocolates and flowers," I smiled, sarcastically. He seemed to have noticed my sarcasm and laughed along with me, not making me look like the only i***t laughing at my own jokes. The whole ride we talked about how much we hated waking up on a cold winter morning just to go to school. "Thanks for the ride, Andy," I said hopping out of the car and taking my bag from the back. "Anytime bruh," Andy said with upside down peace sign, that was his "style" that I always made fun of. "Never do that again... Like ever," I laughed. He frowned and took his backpack from the backseat. We walked to my Math class as he decided to drop me off like he did many times when he had nothing better to do, "here's your math class, Liz." "Oh thanks for telling me, I would've been lost forever if you hadn't told me," I said sarcastically and smiled while hugging him, which dismissed him to go to his own class. I'm very sarcastic if you haven't figured it out by now. I walked inside sighing in exhaustion even though I had just stepped into the building. It was just a slow morning... like every other morning. I made my way to my seat and sat there putting my head down, trying to get as much rest as possible before the hell broke loose. When I looked up, I saw everyone's face in the class except the one I was actually looking for. Jade, she was late, again! Jade was my classmate and most importantly, my best friend. She occupied a seat next to mine so every day we can whisper when the teacher wasn't looking, or sometimes even when he did notice... Jade had no worries about the consequences. While the teacher was telling everyone to take out their books, there was a knock on the door. Oh, I wonder who it could possibly be. "Look who decided to show up," Mr. Walker, my math teacher, said looking down at Jade. It was clear that her cheeks were turning red from embarrassment. Aw, poor but not so poor Jade. "Sorry I'm late..." she said looking down at her feet, "again..." she continued avoiding any eye contacts. She quickly walked over to her seat, next to mine. "Hi!" She said smiling at me as she put her backpack on the floor, Mr. Walker still glaring in her direction. "Jade, I woke up late today and I still made it on time. How are you always late?" I spoke after Mr. Walker had directed his attention to something else, "and hello," I continued, a smile creeping into my lips. "Ok, you were the last person I expected to snap at me. I guess I was wrong," she jokingly said to me. I turned my head to looked on the board and saw Mr. Walker writing down problems from all the sections we've learned in the last chapter as a review for test the next day. Mr. Walker had postponed the test, and it didn't make me even slightest of happy! I had prepared for that stupid test my whole day yesterday. I looked around in boredom until my eyes landed on a new figure sat peacefully next to me, I've never skipped math which made me feel stupid for not acknowledging his existence. Especially when he was sitting right next to me. "Who's he?" I leaned towards Jade, who was also looking at the new kid. "He joined our school yesterday..." she whispered, "A complete hottie!" I coughed. She looked at me and giggled. Man, a lot of things happen when you are gone for one day. I had a dentist appointment yesterday. Then I spent the rest of the day preparing for the math test instead of coming to school. "Hey, do you by any chance have an extra pencil?" I heard a voice coming from the right where the new kid was sitting. So Cliché. Now we are going to start talking, become friends, start dating and then he's going to turn out to be a vampire or something. I've seen it all happen in the movies... "Let me see if I have an extra one..." I said looking at him and smiling. The second day to school and this boy had no pencils. I start losing my school supplies a week later, not the next day. Too irresponsible. I looked through my pencil case only to find everything except an extra pencil. A frown appeared on my face as I turned around to tell him, "I'm sorry, I don't seem to have an extra one." "Oh it's alright, I guess I will just pay more attention in class and study at home," he smiled. I felt bad, his second day in school and I couldn't even help him. Besides, if I don't help now how are we going to become friends, like in the movies. I groaned internally at my weird self. "You can just borrow mine, here," I said turning around again to face him. I held out my one and only pencil. "No, it's really alright I-," he said and I cut him off. If I didn't cut him off, this would go on forever. I imagined how it would go: Me: 'No no have it' Him: 'No it's fine really' Me: 'Take it' Him: 'No I'll just write with my nails' Me: 'Umm... my nails are longer, you have the pencil :)' I cringed at my thought. I really needed some sleep. "Take it," I pushed it more towards him with a smile. "Thanks, well I'm Chris," he said taking the pencil from my hand. There it is, the first step of friendship. Movies aren't that inaccurate after all. "I'm Leslie, nice to meet you," I smiled and after turned my gaze towards Mr. Walker who was already giving me death glares for talking. "Nice to meet you too," he whispered knowing Mr. Walker was looking at us. The new boy was trying to get me killed. I later stole Jade's pencil and she had to find another one from a classmate. Not like she was going to do any class work, it was just to seem like she was doing something with her writing utensil out. 5 minutes before the class ended, Jade took her stuff and left because she had to "use the bathroom." At the sound of the bell, I sighed in relief as I was packing my backpack. Just as I was about to step out of the doorway, I bumped into Brenda who was walking inside the classroom. She gave me one of the nastiest looks which I ignored and picked up her books that I had accidentally dropped. She was a basic b***h of our high school, just like the ones in the movies. Oh my god, my life is a movie! Why was I comparing everything to movies? Anyways. "I'm so sorry," I said holding her books out to her. I was not sorry even the slightest bit, she was a b***h to everyone including me so this was fated to happen. "Watch it, loser," she said snapping her finger in my face, before snatching her books from my hand that I was holding out. "She is not a loser," someone said from behind me and I was happy that someone stood up for me, "she is a lezbi," the person continued and burst out into laughter. I turned around to see some of my classmates standing in a semicircle, watching intensely. Everyone else started laughing and I heard a lot of 'good one bro,' and 'ha! You got that right!' "Shut up assholes, and I am not a lesbian," I said as my face turned red with anger. "Whatever you say, dude, whatever you say..." I heard another jock say. If he weren’t a giant and a part of the varsity football team, I would've kicked his a*s. I walked away from the crowd with anger obvious in my eyes. The crowd diminished as I walked away but I could still hear laughter from the individuals that passed by. Oh, how much I hated this school. I was done with all their nonsense and being all quiet. I had to let them have a piece of my mind. I don't know how but I wanted to, someday. I was walking down the hallways when someone came rushing and put their arm around my neck and shoulder. "Hey Liz," Andy said looking back every now and then. "Hi Andy," I said looking at him for a second, trying to calm my anger down. "I heard Brenda snapping at someone, who was the poor victim now?" He asked glancing back once again. "Who else would it be? Me..." I said looking down. "Oh my god.. again? She needs to stop, really," He said. "Yeah, I really don't give a shiz about what she had to say. I've been ignoring her and I will continue to," I said still faced down. I know I just said I wanted revenge, but there was no way I was going to win against half the school. I wasn't that unrealistic, to not know what's not in my capability. Andy tightened his grip around my shoulder and said, "You are the strongest girl I know." He pecked my cheek before turning around towards his class, "later, Leslie," he said looking at me over his shoulder. Jade came out of thin air, it was great to have my friends by my side when I needed them, "Hey, I heard two girls talking in the bathroom, I'm sorry," she said with a frown. "I'm used to it" I smiled at her. Inside I was really hurt, I hated Brenda for spreading the rumors that I liked girls. One of the reasons for this rumor was because I have never dated a boy... or a girl! I made my way to science class and went to sleep with my head resting on my books, deciding to just leave studying for homework. I quickly opened my eyes to a loud noise of something hitting the floor from high above. I looked down to see a textbook on the floor and I slowly looked up to see Ms. Florence glaring down at me. The whole class burst out into laughter. "Detention tomorrow after school," Ms. Florence said with the straightest face she could pull off, picking up the textbook off the floor. Eff my life! "Sorry, Mrs. Florence," I mumbled, then rubbed my eyes. I stared blankly into space, thinking about how much my life sucked. "Thinking about Jade?" Someone asked causing me to cut my thoughts short. I turned around to face the owner. It was Mason, one of the most popular jocks. Let's just say, he was popular because he was skilled at flirting, being a jerk and being attractive, or at least that's what the other girls thought. Me? I thought he was a d**k. He knew how to get on people's last nerves and I was glad his bullying towards me had come to an end. "Sorry?" I asked with a confused look. "Remember Jade? The girl you have a crush on? or so-called your 'best friend'," he said with a smirk. Now, this was the smirk I wanted to slap off his face. Secondly, how did he know that Jade was my best friend? Oh right, she was the only one who stood up for me. Even Andy bitched out sometimes in front of those stupid jerks and Jade alone argued back. "I do not have a f*****g crush on her... Why don't you stupid people get that?" I said frustrated. "Calm down... I was just wondering" he said with the smirk still plastered on his face. "Well then, don't wonder... Ugh, idiots" I said putting my head down but quickly holding it back up remembering that I just got detention because of sleeping. I wasn't wrong when I called him an i***t because when I looked up, he was still smirking down at me. How does your face not hurt from smirking? Like, do your cheeks just get used to it? I don't understand… *****
