The Family

Balancing love and university studies hasn't been easy for me. I've poured my heart and soul into achieving my dream of studying law, giving it my all to reach my goals. It hasn't come easily, but I'm proud of my efforts because I believe I've chosen a path that will last a lifetime. Soon, I'll be a lawyer, and I'll marry the woman I love. We'll travel the world together, enjoying life and finding peace of mind. But can this really happen for me? Sasa, the woman I adore, is in her second year at the college of education, while I was just starting university. Additionally, her parents might marry her off as soon as she finishes college. My family is a complex, extended one, as my father often married multiple wives, though all are now separated, including my mother. Only his last two marriages avoided divorce. I was raised solely by my mother, along with my four biological brothers Alexson, Smith, Jackson and I Brian.Alexson and Smith are certified medical doctors, I a lawyer, and Jackson is a resilient and determined man. We were all brought up and educated by our mother alone, as our father had no interest in his children. I have numerous paternal half-siblings, almost more than twenty, and one full maternal brother. Our mother's hard work and dedication ensured our most talented brother Alexson could study at university. His diligence during his one-year remedial studies made him the best student of the year, earning him a place to study Medicine and Surgery. He was a genius who never experienced failure in his life. The love he had for our family and his brothers inspired him to pave the way for our future success. He dedicated his entire life to ensuring we all succeeded. He had a detailed plan for each of us. He guided my elder brother, Smith whom I follow, into entering Medical College following his footstep career. His plan succeeded, and my brother was also accepted into medical school after a one-year remedial study, just as he did. He sponsored our entire education, including mine at the College of Law. My brother Smith also successfully completed medical school and joined the medical profession and works as a surgeon owning his independent hospital and also work with top international organisation as a doctor without border, but his selfishness and reluctance to uplift and support the younger ones became a burden to our self-sacrificing brother ALexson who is also a consultant in opthalmology. I can't fathom how Alexson feels about the strange happenings in our family, especially after the tragic death of his second most beloved sibling, our younger sister Mariam, who died in a sudden accident on her way back home from college. Though he is not one to openly express his feelings, I can always see the disappointment on his face and sometimes in his actions. He trusted and believed in me, never expecting me to fail or disappoint him on my journey to success. I believe if I had strictly followed his plans for me and remained loyal to his vision, my life would have been better from the start. But sadly, I failed his trust and became disloyal to his plan, sacrificing that trust for the sake of love. How that happened, my destiny to face obstacles, meet new people, learn new skills, and study new techniques, joining a new profession that leads me to where I am now, is what I aim to share with you. Sasa's father was one of the wealthiest men in our town, and like many affluent men, he had numerous wives and children—more than my own father. However, unlike my father, he genuinely cared for his children. Sasa's mother, a shrewd and cunning woman, knew how to keep her husband, Sasa's father, under her influence, which made him favor her above his other wives. Sasa's father was old man who married Sasa's mother when she was just a young girl. He already have grown daughters senior to Sasa's mother when she married her. This situation fueled jealousy among his other wives and children, who saw Sasa's mother as manipulative. Despite this, Sasa and her siblings received the most care and attention because they were the youngest, and he believed they needed his protection the most. Suddenly, without any warning, Sasa's father passed away. At the time, Sasa was only seven years old. Her older siblings were no more than ten, and twelve years while her younger siblings were just three to five years old, with her mother still expecting another child as she was pregnant. The death of Sasa's father shattered the family dynamic. Sasa and her mother faced immense hardship, as the rest of the family, already harboring resentment, abandoned them completely. They were left to fend for themselves, with no one willing to support or even acknowledge them.
