Alicia's POV
Walking through the streets of City B, trying to see if maybe I could find a job, but to no avail. I came across a few stores looking for workers, but they weren't willing to accept me because of the difference between my eyeballs. They all came up with one excuse after another.
Getting lost in my thoughts, I stumbled across a bar looking for a waiter. "Woah, I better try my luck," I said to myself. Summoning my courage, I walked into the bar. The interior was dimly lit. It was not high profile, but exquisite in a way that made you not want to leave. It was bustling with a lot of people drinking and dining. Some couples could be seen smooching around the corner. Ignoring them, I walked up to the bartender.
"Hi, I saw a post outside which said there is a vacancy here."
He was so engrossed in cleaning up the table that he didn't notice I was standing in front of him until I spoke. Raising his head from what he was doing, he stared intently directly into my eyes. I knew why he was staring at me because I'm used to it. Feigning ignorance, I touched my face.
"Excuse me, is something on my face?"
Jolting out of his reverie-
"So alluring."
"Excuse me, sir?"
"Sorry, I was just too captivated by your eyeballs. They seem to be pulling me in."
Woah. To say I was happy was an understatement. I was overwhelmed. Concealing the joy I felt and giving him a sweet smile, I said, "Thank you, sir."
"How may I help you?" he asked.
"I came into the bar to make an enquiry about the vacancy stated on the board outside. Do you by any chance know something about it?"
"Oops, my bad. I was actually planning to take it off the board when I'm done with what I'm doing here. There is no more vacancy. Had it been you came a little bit earlier, it could have been yours. I'm sorry."
It is this same story I've been hearing all day long. Masking my disappointment, I said a quick thank you and turned around to leave. Feeling dejected, I decided to call it a day. Coupled with the fact that the sun was setting, I made my way to my house to freshen up before going to the hospital.
Outside the bar, I felt a chill run down my spine. Hugging myself while rubbing my hands on my arms, I flagged down a taxi, and it stopped close to where I was. I entered, told him where I was going, then rested my head against the headrest and reminisced on what happened three years ago.
*************** FLASHBACK ***************
I was in a bar with my friends. We had just finished our final year's last paper. While waiting for the results, we decided to go clubbing.
************* Earlier that day *************
After finishing my last paper, I walked outside to see my friends waiting for me with their backs turned to me. Jumping into their midst suddenly with both my hands raised and placing them on their shoulders caused them to bend forward because they weren't expecting it.
"Hey, take it easy, we still value our necks," Camille told me while rubbing her neck and slapping my hand away.
Removing my hand from her neck and turning to walk sideways, Ashton said, "Shall we go clubbing?"
"Yeah, let's go."
"Then how about we make a bet?" Camille asked.
"Yeah, sounds cool. So what's the bet about?"
"The last person to reach the dorm is footing the bill."
"Game on."
"Yeah, let's go," Ashton and I both said simultaneously.
With that said, we raced ourselves to the dorm, but none of us won the bet because we reached the dorm at the same time. But I know you guys would be wondering how it's possible for us to arrive at the same time. The secret is we are all athletes and our speed is almost at the same level. So back to the matter at hand, we decided to split the bills. After settling that, we headed to our respective rooms to get ready.
Immediately I entered my room, I went to freshen up because my skin felt so sticky after the race we had. I spent about thirty minutes in there because I had to make sure my body was completely relaxed. After that, I came out, went to my vanity to apply all the necessities I needed on my body.
After I spent almost an hour trying to look for clothes, I decided to go for a knee-length off-shoulder black velvet gown that I paired with silver Louis Vuitton wedges and a small silver necklace. I don't like wearing heels because I sprain my ankle anytime I put them on. For my makeup, I went for nude lipstick, black smoky eyeshadow, pink blush, and lastly, I packed my hair up in a messy bun. It looked like I was the only one yet to come out, but what can I do? I love having the last-minute checkup.
"We are running out of time, Alicia!" I heard Camille calling out to me.
"I'm coming!" I yelled back.
Taking my little silver Hermès bag, I went out to meet my friends.
Camille was wearing a green knee-length body-hugging gown with black Louis Vuitton heels, a green purse, and trust her to go all out with her makeup. Ashton was wearing a black floral-pattern long gown that was split to the thigh on the left side, with white Prada heels, a white Hermès bag, and a golden necklace to complete her look. She went for little-to-no makeup.
*********** 20 minutes later ***********
We reached the clubhouse. It was bustling with a lot of people, and I have to say, we had a blast. When we arrived, we went straight to the bar and ordered bottles of tequila and whiskey, which we chugged down in one go. We continued drinking until we were wasted.
All of a sudden, Ashton went to the stripper pole and started dancing her ass off. I couldn't let the moment pass by without making use of it. I took my phone and did a small video of her. Camille got hooked up with a random guy who pulled her away to God knows where. I'm getting the full gist tomorrow, that I'm sure of.
Feeling nauseous, I ran out to look for somewhere to relieve myself. On getting outside, I was lucky to see somewhere a little bit private. After emptying my stomach, I turned around to leave but was stopped by a voice.
"Stop right there."
I couldn't move, for I was momentarily shocked, but I came back to my senses when I heard his footsteps coming closer. Unable to think straight, I ran. I ran as far as my feet could carry me.
(End of flashback.)
I was still in my train of thought when my phone rang. I checked to see who the caller was, and it turned out to be Camille.
