Part of the pack

979 Words
*Freesia* The sun spills golden light over the pack compound, warming the earth beneath me as I sit on a blanket spread across the grass just outside the walls. The air is infused with the scents of pine and wildflowers, a refreshing contrast to the stale, polluted atmosphere of the city I left behind. Each breath I take fills me with a sense of renewal, I am realising that nature has its own rhythm, one that pulses with life and energy. I watch as Raze and Jo play a few yards away, their laughter ringing out like music. It is amazing how quickly this sprite of a girl has regained her health and energy. He crouches low, his massive frame contrasted against Jo’s small, vibrant energy as she races around him, her arms outstretched as if she could take flight. The sight is both heartwarming and astonishing; the gruff Alpha is transformed into a gentle giant in the presence of his daughter. He moves with such care, every fleeting glance and soft chuckle wrapped in an overwhelming tenderness. It makes my heart swell, the corners of my mouth turning up involuntarily. “Look, Dad! I’m a wolf!” Jo shouts, her voice filled with pure joy as she leaps into the air, mimicking a wolf attacking. Raze responds with a playful growl, bounding after her with a speed that belies his size. The vibrant energy between them is infectious, and I can’t help but chuckle softly to myself. As I lean back on my hands, I glance around the area, taking in everything. Nearby Raylee walks hand in hand with Torren, their heads bent together in a shared conversation. There’s a palpable warmth between them, a connection that is both tender and exhilarating. I can see the way Torren looks at Raylee, his gaze filled with a mix of admiration and love. It’s a stark contrast to the relationships I’ve witnessed back in the city… relationships often marred by a sense of ownership over women and greed. Here, there is a sense of belonging, of family, woven into every interaction. A pang of longing stirs within me as I watch my sister and her mate. I never thought I wanted that kind of connection. I’ve always kept my heart guarded, especially after witnessing the toxic dynamics in the city. But as I sit here, surrounded by the warmth of the pack and the laughter of Raze and Jo, I can’t help but wonder if maybe, just maybe, I want something like that for myself. I steal a glance at Raze, his strong form silhouetted against the sun as he captures Jo in a gentle embrace, lifting her high into the air. Her infectious laughter fills the air, and Raze’s deep chuckle resonates through me, sending a warmth spreading through my chest. There’s something magnetic about him, something that draws me in despite the walls I’ve built. I’ve witnessed his strength and his resolve, but it’s this softer side… the way he nurtures Jo, the way he carries the weight of the world on his shoulders while still finding joy in the simplest moments… that truly captivates me. “What are you thinking about?” Raylee’s voice interrupts my reverie, pulling me back into the moment. I turn to her, a smile breaking across my face. “Just… how beautiful everything is here. And how lucky Jo is to have a father like Raze.” Raylee eyes me knowingly, a teasing smile creeping onto her lips. “You’re not just talking about Jo, are you?” I feel my cheeks flush, and I look away, unable to suppress the grin that threatens to betray my thoughts. “I’m not… I just…” She nudges me with her shoulder, her amusement infectious. “Oh come on, Freesia. I see the way you look at him. You feel the mate bond too.” I bite my lip, torn between embarrassment and excitement. “It’s complicated, Raylee. He’s the Alpha. He has responsibilities, and I’m just… me.” “Exactly. You’re you. And he’s drawn to that. You’ve seen how he is with Jo. He doesn’t just care for her; he cares for you too. You’re part of this pack now, you are his mate.” As her words sink in, I can’t help but imagine a future that includes Raze, a future where I could share more than just a friendship with him. The idea sends a thrill through me, a mix of hope and trepidation. Could I really open my heart to someone? Someone as formidable as Raze? Trust in this mate bond they talk about? My attention drifts back to the playful scene unfolding before me. Raze has Jo on his shoulders now, and they’re both howling at the sky, their voices mingling in a joyous chorus. I wish I could join them, to be part of their world, to feel the connection and freedom they share. “Freesia!” Jo’s voice breaks through my thoughts, and I look up to see her waving at me, her eyes bright with mischief. “Come join us! You can be a wolf too!” “Yeah, come on, Freesia!” Raze adds, his voice booming with laughter. “There’s always room for another wolf in the pack.” The invitation ignites a fire within me, one that I can’t ignore. I push myself up from the blanket, my heart racing with excitement and a hint of nerves. Maybe it’s time to embrace the adventure that awaits, to step beyond my comfort zone and into the wild unknown that is this pack… and maybe, just maybe, into Raze’s arms. As I take my first step toward them, I know I can’t actually be a wolf like them, I am just a human… but they do not seem to mind, so why should I?
