Chapter One

Beatrice POV The fresh London air swept through my face as I walked out of the airport, and a wide smile spread across my face. There was no other feeling as exciting as returning home. Five years away from the country felt like ages. I saw a chauffeur standing next to a car with my name written on a card, and I guessed that was my ride. I waved at him, and he smiled back at me. He collected my luggage and tucked it in the trunk of the car. As I got into the car, I plugged in my ear pods and listened to music, unaware of the entire ride home. I felt someone tap me, and I opened my eyes. I was finally back. I stepped out of the car and looked around. This was the only home I remembered. "Beatrice!" I heard my sister's voice as she ran out of the house and enveloped me in a hug. I wrapped my arms around her back. "I’ve missed you so much!" She squealed, and I smiled. "Me too," I said. She pulled away from the hug, holding my hand and dragging me inside. "We have a lot to catch up on. Let’s go inside." I couldn’t protest because she was already dragging me. I saw Mum in the living room. The moment she saw me, her eyes widened, and she opened her arms. I wrapped my arms around her, snuggling my face in her neck while she stroked my hair. "It’s been so long, baby," she said, and I nodded against her. After a few minutes, I finally pulled away and looked around. "Where’s Dad?" I asked, noticing a slight change in her expression. But she quickly changed it back to a smile. "Your dad went to work, but he’ll be back by evening. We’re having a family dinner tonight, so you can shower and take some rest," Mum said. Before I could respond, Rebecca interrupted. "That’s not going to happen, because she has to make up for all the time she missed." She was already pulling me upstairs. When we got to my room, everything was just as I left it. The only difference was my luggage, which was at the side of the room. "So, what’s the news you were so eager to tell me?" I asked, rolling my eyes. She raised her right hand in front of me. I caught sight of a diamond ring on her middle finger. It was so gorgeous and fit her perfectly. "Oh my gosh! It’s beautiful, Becca!" I said, shortening her name. "I know! I wanted to show you in person, not over the phone," she said, and I hugged her again. "I hope he’s not a jerk. If he ever breaks your heart, I’ll kick his balls!" I said, and she chuckled. We ended up talking about other things, and we didn’t realize it had gotten dark until a maid knocked on the door. "The dinner is ready," she said, then left almost immediately. "I’ll leave you to shower and get dressed so we don’t waste Mum’s time," Rebecca said before leaving my room. I took a quick shower, wore a pink floral dress, and put on my flip flops before exiting the room. As I approached the dining room, I heard voices, but they were in hushed tones, so I couldn’t make out what they were saying. I made myself known, and they all stopped talking, making me furrow my brows slightly. Was there something they were hiding from me? "Oh, honey, you’re here!" I heard my father’s hoarse voice. I took in his appearance. He had aged a bit since the last time I saw him. "Hi, Dad," I greeted before sitting down beside him. "Welcome back, honey." I smiled slightly. In the next minute, the maids began serving dinner, and when they were done, they left. I dished my food and began eating failing to notice the glance everyone was giving each other. When I had almost finished my meal, Dad cleared his throat and I looked up. "Is anything wrong Dad" I asked and he shook his head. "We have something to discuss with you" Mum interfered and I faced the both of them. Something was definitely wrong and I just confirmed that they were clearly hiding something from me. "What do you think about Marriage Beatrice" Dad asked and I raised a brow. "I don't think that question is supposed to be directed at me. Rebecca is the one getting married so she should be the one should think about that" I replied. "I'm not getting married Beatrice" Rebecca said and I turned sharply to her. "What the hell are you saying? You told me you were getting married in a month and that I was going to be your maid of honor, you even showed me your engagement ring so how are you not getting married" "Was it called off?"I asked but she shook her head. "Yes I am engaged but I am not getting married just not yet" "Then why did you make a fuss about it and made me come back home. Did you miss me that much" I asked. "That's okay Rebecca. Beatrice there's a reason why we wanted you back home and it's not because Rebecca is getting married" "Then what is it because I can clearly see all of you were just lying to my face and now I don't think everything is okay" I said and my father exhaled. "You're getting married in a month" My father dropped the bombshell and my eyes almost popped out of it's socket. "What?" "You're getting married Beatrice, we've already planned everything out and we just need you to agree....." As my father talked it just looked to me that he was babbling. Like who the hell arranges marriage for someone without the person's consent and she doesn't even know the person she's talking to. "This got to be a joke. Mum are you also in on this. That I am getting married" I didn't know that I was yelling at my parents but I didn't care. Like they just made an absurd decision of how the rest of my life would be cause that's how it totally seems to me. "So what's it gonna be. Your husband is rich and he promised to take good care of you Honey. You have my word, I won't let any harm come to you in any way" And I slammed my hands on the table loudly and Rebecca flinched. "This is all rubbish. I'm not getting married to whoever you think and just so you know I am returning back to the states tomorrow. I can't bear all this from you all" I said and left the dinning heading to my room but my father's next words made me stop. "Then get prepared to be disowned by me"
