Chapter 14

901 Words
Myra POV After Alpha Liam and Mason left, i quickly ate the sandwich the alpha had given me. It was surprisingly good and full of veggies. Shew, man knew how to cook. Or else I really was just starving. Soon, however, I was a little bored. Hazel had Andrea, Carolina and Reggie busy with prep work and there weren't a lot of dishes for me yet. I could hear the noise building up in the dining hall and i decided to have a peek while I waited for my work to start. The dining hall was huge, and it looked like the entire guard and all the packhouse staff were there. I glanced around from the kitchen door at all of the people filing in. I made eye contact with Kristi and she smiled and waved at me. I waved back shyly. I couldn't help but to look for Alpha Liam, but he was unsurprisingly nowhere to be seen. I know Alpha Warren only had his meals delivered to his room, so maybe Alpha Liam was the same way. I cringed mentally at the thought of Alpha Warren. But, then i remembered Mason had just mentioned a meeting with another pack. Maybe that's where he was. I sighed, not sure why i was taking so much interest in a man that clearly hated me. “Myra! Your dishes are piling up back here!” came Hazels booming voice. I hurried back to the dishwashing station and began to work. Hazel hadnt been kidding. Throughout the night, as Hazel and the rest of the kitchen staff has gotten slower, i got busier. I could hear the sound from the dining hall dying out, but i knew that just meant more people were leaving, which meant even more dishes. I frowned looking at my already large pile. I was going to be here all night. “We are done for the night. Everyone's eaten and we're heading out,” Hazel said from beside me. I jumped. I'd been so focused i hadn't heard her come up next to me. “Oh, okay” I mumbled “You need to stay here and work on these. Im not going to help you, and ive ordered everyone else not to help you either. This is how life is going to be for you from now on. Better get used to it.” She said harshly. Jeez, where was the Hazel Mason had talked about that was a “softie”? Because this woman certainly wasn't it. The kitchen door opened, and Mason walked in, the grin back on his face. “Beta Mason is here to watch you, so don't try any funny business like trying to escape or something stupid.” Hazel added. “I’m not going to try and escape” I grumbled. I was getting tired of constantly being babysat. Where would I go anyway? I couldn't risk leaving and getting caught by Warrens guard. “Right. Well, goodbye, and be here 7am sharp for the breakfast rush. No excuses. The guards have quite the appetite after morning training.” Hazel walked out laughing cruelly as she went. “I thought you said she was nice.” I muttered to Mason as i continued my work. He laughed. “Did I say she was nice? I meant she's nice to me. Shes harsh on all of her kitchen staff at first. She might warm up though, eventually.” Great. I rolled my eyes at him. He eyed my huge pile of dishes. “Thats still a lot to do. I wish i could help you, but in the kitchen, what Hazel says, goes. That pile is making me think we're going to be here all night, though. Can’t you work any faster?” I glared at him, “Not if you keep distracting me by complaining about the work I have to do.” he laughed but made a ‘zipping his lips’ gesture. Mason was not one to keep quiet. He had a very lighthearted personality for a beta and he easily kept conversation with me. He talked about his siblings and the things they would do as children. Most of them involving the trouble he and Tessa would get in while Kristi stayed timidly on the sidelines. His perception of Tessa was so different than the girl I had met. In his stories she was as lighthearted and fun as he was, but when i met her she seemed whiney. I wondered what had changed. But i guess i didn't know her very well. Alpha Liam wove in and out of his stories, and automatically I would listen harder, though i pretended not to. “-and if you can believe it, I actually managed to convince Liam to eat the snail! He hates me telling that story but ill never let him live it down.” Mason was laughing so hard he had tears in his eyes. I giggled. I couldn't imagine this ruthless alpha as the innocent child Mason portrayed. “You two are very close, aren't you?” I asked. “Yeah...we grew up together. "He's like my brother,” Mason said, still chortling. Then, abruptly, his laughter stopped. I looked up from my still mountainous pile of dishes to see what had silenced him. Alpha Liam was there, leaning against the door frame. His expression murderous.
