Chapter 16

994 Words
Myra POV A month had passed and although I hadn’t forgotten my plans to escape and rescue pop, I began to feel at home in my new pack. The pack members began to feel more comfortable with me also. I had, with some trepidation, asked Mason in my second week here if I could spend some time running and training in the mornings. He considered me and after, I assume, mind linking Alpha Liam, he had agreed. My rules were simple, one hour in the mornings before my first shift, I could only workout on the indoor track they kept, I had to be supervised and I could only train in human form. It was my biggest joy currently. The only time I felt like I wasn’t a slave. Usually Mason or Andrea was set to watch me during these times. Mason liked to train with me, giving me pointers and teaching me new moves. Andrea just liked to talk. She told me about all of the ongoing of pack life. Sometimes when it was slow in the hospital, Dr. Heck or Kristi came to babysit. Dr. Heck was my favorite. He just settled down with a book and it made me feel like I was truly alone. Two times, Alpha Liam had come. He just stood there, arms crossed and eyes on me. He had kept his word about not kissing me again, for which I wasn’t sure how I felt. I told myself I didn’t want to be kissed again, but I often dreamed about the feel of his lips on mine again. I’d often find myself forgetting where I was and staring back at him. Still, although he didn’t kiss me again, he still came to the kitchens every night, stood beside me and washed dishes. The first couple of times he did this we didn’t talk. I was still pretty angry and I could tell he was too. I wasn’t sure why he was helping me. However, I started to realize this was going to be routine and the cold silences made the night drag on. So, I began to talk while we worked. I told him about my day, or tell him a story about my life from my old pack. I was careful not to mention Aloha Warren. It hurt me to even say his name and the few times I’d slipped up, id seen anger flash in his eyes. He didn’t do much talking himself, but I could tell he was listening. Every once in a while a laugh would slip from his beautiful lips and even more rarely he would tell a related story from his life. Tonight was no different from other nights. I had just finished telling him that Kristi had asked me to come watch her work a couple times a month so I could get some training in medicine too. Healing had always been my passion but Alpha Warren didn’t think a Luna should waste her time in a hospital. So I’d never been allowed to learn. “Myra” Alpha Liam spoke quietly, taking me out of my thoughts. My name on his lips caused my heart to flutter. I hadn’t heard him use it before. Ugh I was so pathetic. I looked up at him to see he had paused his work. I stopped too. “Yes alpha?” “I’m going out of town next week.” He said abruptly. “I have an annual conference. A meeting for all of the allied alphas.” “Oh.” I said, trying to sound indifferent. I’d gotten so used to his company and his help at nights. It would be weird here without him. “Will Beta Mason be guarding me at night while you’re gone?” Liam gritted his teeth. “No.” I stared at him trying to understand his reaction. I watched his eyes get gentle again. “Actually, you’re coming with me. I don’t like the idea of leaving you here without me. There is a ball that you will be attending with me.” I could feel myself getting mad. What had I done that was untrustworthy that he couldn’t leave me without him for a week? I was tired of being bossed around. I was tired of these alphas thinking they had all this control over me. “I think I’ll stay here actually.” I said. Knowing full well it would piss him off. As alpha he always got what he wanted, but I was too mad to care. His eyes flared dangerously. “You’re coming with me. End of discussion. Don’t let those disrespectful words come out of your mouth again.” Rage built up in my chest hotter than it had been in a long time. Not since the night.. A smile curved my face. “You don’t like disrespectful words, Alpha? Well f**k you!” I don’t know what made me say it. It didn’t even feel like me. Immediately I felt snapped back to myself. Like the evil part of me was forced down. I looked up at him, shocked by myself and terrified of his reaction. But, to my surprise he was staring at me with just as much shock, but no anger. “Your… your eyes…” he said, his brows pushed together. “Alpha! I’m so sorry. I don’t know what came over me! Please don’t send me back to the dungeons. I’m s-so sorry!” My voice was shaking. I was mad but I hadn’t meant to take it that far. Alpha Liam surprised me again by pulling me into a hug. The electricity shot through my arms and I immediately felt calm. “Don’t be afraid of me” he whispered. And I wasn’t. Abruptly he pulled away. “I have to go. I’ll send Mason down to finish guard with you.” And he turned and stalked out of the room.
