Chapter 9

Liam POV

“Alpha, don’t you think it’s about time you took me as luna?” Tessa purred stroking her hand down my chest. She had let herself into my office as usual and without my permission. I let her get away with far too much these days.

“I never said you would be luna.” I couldn't help but to roll my eyes. Tessa was persistent. I couldn't deny she was a great f**k though when i needed it. I just didn't need it right now, i had too much on my mind. Well, just one thing on my mind, the prisoner. I couldn't help the thoughts that kept going back to her without my permission.

“We should go check one her!” Rakin persisted in my head. Again. Maybe that's why my thoughts kept going back to her.

“Mason will tell us when Shes awake. Then, we can question her.” i told him

I felt Tessas tongue begin to slide down my bare chest. Rakin receded in the back of my head grossed out. f**k. Maybe Tessa was exactly what i needed right now after all. I groaned and Tessa took encouragement from that, beginning to unbutton my pants.

“Alpha! I just got word from the guards that she's awake.” Mason sounded in my head. I pushed Tessa off immediately and stood up. She looked up at me all offended

“Liam!!” She whined.

“I have pack obligations Tessa. I need to go question the prisoner” i said, walking out of my office

Tessa immediately perked up. “Well then, I should come too! i need to learn this stuff if I'm going to make a good luna”

I ignored her and just let her follow me out. It was true that she would probably be luna someday if I couldn't find my mate and it's not like I had much interest in that anyway. Contrary to what everyone else thought, i felt mates made you weak. I was already strong, i didn't need anything else. I didn't have much feeling for Tessa, besides sexually. but she came from great stock. My betas twin sister. She would make me great heirs and that's really what I needed.

When we arrived at the dungeons I went straight to the interrogation room. Dr. Heck was already there, good. I wasn't surprised he had decided to bring his young intern, Kristi. She was the youngest sibling of Mason and like a sister to me. This would be her first interrogation, but it was important for her to see as she was training to take his place someday.

I went down and sat in the chair next to Dr. Heck. I felt more eager than was necessary for the situation. Must be the tedium of my life. Tessa took the seat next to me and started complaining about the smell down here. I tried to tune her out the best I could.

Soon enough i heard Masons mind link that he was on her way with her. “Dad was going off again.” he added and i could feel his mental eye roll.

“He needs to shut up and take it. I won't be able to stop the men of this pack if they try to kill him again. Not sure what keeps possessing him to try and flirt with mated females. He’s lucky you're my beta and he has so many years of loyalty to this pack under his belt because I wouldn't stand for this under any other circumstance.”

“Thats what I told him”. Mason replied shortly

Respect for the mate bonds is one of our highest laws. He knows how possessive and jealous it can make someone. I wasn't sure what made Sammy think he was above it or why he thought it wouldn't get him murdered.

I heard the door open and i tensed, excited to see her again. Mason came first, but she followed close behind him. She looked a mess, although i can't say I've seen her under good circumstances, but this was the first time id really been able to look at her. Her face was dirty and she had a swollen lip with bruises covering her arms and legs. Even so, she was easily the most beautiful woman I had ever seen. Her long dark hair and green eyes. She looked so incredibly sexy in just a t-shirt. Against my will, I felt my d**k getting hard, my imagination getting ahead of me. Goddess now was not the time for that. Besides, she looked terrified, eyes darting all around the room. And oh my goddess, i don't know why, but i cannot have her afraid. Every protective instinct flared up inside of me and i fought the desire to take her in my arms and comfort her and protect her against whatever fears she had.

Before i could make sense of my sudden protectiveness, her scent finally hit me, strong and beautiful. Lavander and honey filled me with such a force that my eyes began to close and I breathed in deeply trying to get more.

“Mate!” Rakin was suddenly loud in my mind.
