Half as Hard Jimmy
“ALL RIGHT, VENT, we can talk as long as no one else is on the road, but if I say, ‘Shhh,’ you stop talking. Understand?”
“No problem, not much of a talker.”
“No s**t!”
Vent curled up in his customized shelf on the underside of the carriage and settled in for the ride. The plan set—Moses would pull up to the alley at four thirty, unload his delivery, wait for the right moment, and give the signal, “Go.” Vent would then crawl out from down below and wheel his special cargo into the alley while Moses waited with the carriage about a mile outside of Irishtown. Vent calculated he would need about ninety minutes to set everything up before the action took place.
