Alice, as Janus for now, has a keen sense of smell; besides that, she also has the ability to see things several kilometers away. For her, this is part of the curse imposed on her since she was born in this world. But to remember what the mysterious woman in the forest said Alice needs to be careful this time.
-Earthquake!
The ground seemed to be cracked. It lasts for only ten second.Ten of the shifters had fallen to the ground. They were not hurt; they just couldn't hold on. Some of them go to the nearest tree along the road just to hold themselves from being collapsed.
-Boom!
The next was a sudden rumbling, as the troops of Janus Marasigan were on their way to Surigao.
-Boom!
The sound of rumbling is violent and can be heard throughout the city. Janus Marasigan's head smashed into something hard, causing him to grimace in pain. The same with other warriors.
As Janus Marasigan slowly opened his eyes, he could only see a dim, blurry background. In front of him is a flower plant that seems to have been planted by someone.
He looked at the petals that were yellow. At first, he was amazed at the beautiful kind of this plant but, because of the dim surroundings, he approached this flower to look closely. But he was surprised to see blood on the stem of the plant. Because of this, he thought that the flower is not a natural plant that grew on earth.
"This is not true..."
Janus Marasigan whispered.
"Plants cannot survive without water and sun. You were just a dream" Janus added.
She moaned as he tried to raise his hand to rub the back of his head, but his body wouldn’t move; a mixture of pain, itching, and numbness had left it paralyzed. It was as if his limbs didn’t belong to him; they firmly lay on the ground beside him like four wooden sticks.
"Am I dead?"
His mind was still chaotic.
With his own eyes, Janus watched as a burst of blue electric current emerged in his fingernails. After that, there was a pungent smell of burnt flesh as he lost consciousness.
His head was in a daze; it seemed like all his memories had turned to mush. Janus Marasigan opened his eyes as much as he could, trying to figure out what was going on around him.
"General, wake up!"
Another voice he heard He knew that he was lying on the ground, but Commander Walter tried his best to wake him up. When he finally opened his eyes to another outburst of unbearable pain, he passed out again.
Nobody knew how long it would have been—perhaps one day or perhaps several days. Like a flood breaking out of a dam, a huge and complex wave of thoughts rampaged into his mind.
He couldn’t think about anything else; still bearing a headache, he started exploring the memories that had just flowed into his brain.
"Whoosh!"
Commander Walter pimped an animal. This white bird landed on Janus's hand. It made a few turns before disappearing again. Unexpectedly, the landing of the bird immediately brought Janus Marasigan back to consciousness.
"General, finally you are awake!"
Commander Walter greets
"What happened?"
Janus Marasigan rewinds the things happening around him. He realized that he was now lying on the sandy part of the ground, which is lined with thick cloth.
"We made a stop over here first while waiting for you to wake up; anyway, take a general look at where we are."
Commander Walter invited Janus for a walk. When they reached a cliff, they could see the mountainous city of Surigao.
"Commander Walter, let's go."
Janus Marasigan's ordered The commander immediately returned to the soldiers and got prepared.
The cold breeze was strong as they traveled through the city. Surigao soldiers met them. Most shifters outside had either blond or silver hair, while some had red hair, and their eye and skin colors varied greatly. They are both male and female soldiers.
"What kind of shifter are they?" Janus wandered
"The Alpha once said that shifters here mostly came from foreign blood. of the kingdom, these shifters who were living here were called the sons and daughters of the sun. Because of the different kinds of breeds they are. That's why the Alpha before assigned a new Alpha and gave them this place, to race their pack."
Commander Walter explained.
Thinking of this, Janus Marasigan found out he had traveled to an alternate reality. He had some small expectations. He realized that this city was merely one that was decades behind in treasures and education. Unlike Sur City,
Janus Marasigan carefully observed the other households and the situation of this city; the staircase was dark, each floor only had two households, and every one of them had a brass mailbox on the left side of the door with names engraved on it. They looked quite old.
The residents going in and out were wearing tidy and elegant suits and dresses. Although they had very tired expressions, they moved in a hurry and followed their directions. It was natural to say that they just had very fast-paced lives. Only a small number of households were in poor condition, and some were rented by street vendors.
"We stop here."
Janus Marasigan said when he saw the elegant posture of Shifter with five body guards in his back and walking to their directions. He can't confirm yet if he is the Alpha, but he feels that he is the head of the officials of the pack.
Commander Walter and Janus Marasigan jumped off the horse.
The two walked out for a few steps, then stopped. The street was silent while they were waiting for someone.
"Did you know him?"
Janus asked
"No, general, this is the first time that I saw him." Commander Walter replied:
"Welcome to the city!"
The greeting of the newly arrived shifter
It stopped and stood in front of the two. Janus Marasigan stared at this man in the face. He didn't respond; instead, he asked.
"What is your name?"
"Oh, so it's true that the generals of the capital city are arrogant." The weird shifter answered and frowned. Janus stared at those five body guards behind him.
"Bring us to the Alpha." Janus ordered.
"You're a very brave general; you're brave enough to be so small. Call me Alexer, the great general of the pack," the weird shifter said.
"Alright, thanks for the warm welcome, Mr. Alexer. Now, I want to talk to the Alpha."
Alexer glared at him because of his arrogant way of speaking. He has no idea what Janus Marasigan is thinking at this time.
"Commander Walter, I will be the one to talk to the Alpha. I need you to stay here."
Janus Marasigan said as the weird general turned himself, going to the pack house with five shifters. Janus followed him, but before that, Janus whispered to Commander Walter's ear. "Don't trust anyone here; vampires are all around."
The commander nodded, his eyes now widening. He realizes that this little general has a sharp smell.
However, Janus Marasigan found the Alpha of the pack. He has been sick, lying in his room for three months.
"I am Janine Guardo, the daughter of the Alpha. Thank you for coming here!"
This female shifter is the princess. But why does she look covered with fear and nervousness? Janus deep thought
"There is something wrong with this house."
Janus said while he stared at the sleeping Alpha.
"What do you mean?" the weird general of the pack asked.
Janus Marasigan walked near him. But what he did next was to quickly grab the weird general's neck, pull him, and bring him close to the big window of the Alpha's room.
At the bottom, many shifters were walking around, along with the soldiers and commander Walter, who remained standing in front of the pack house.
"Ladies and gentlemen, this is to inform you that the Alpha was sick because of your weak general."
Janus Marasigan says it in a loud voice.
"I did everything for this pack; why are you blaming me now? This is a baseless allegation."
The weird general, Alexer, tried to say something even though his voice was strained. Janus let go of his neck and said,
"Then prove it!"
What Janus Marasigan did was because two of his bodyguards were vampires. Alice makes his way. That's the reason why the princess can't do anything. However, Janus wants to know his reason first.
"Princess Janine Guardo, can I talk to the beta and the omega?"
The trembling princess answered quickly.
"Yes, I will call them right away. See you in the hall."
The princess glances at Janus Marasigan; her worrying looks and her eyes seem to say the word 'help'. Janus knew it, but he didn't know the reason for it. Then the princess immediately left the room.
"Because of what you did, I will file a complaint against you. You insulted the dignity of the alpha warrior. You will see," the weird general said. He growled at the same time.
"Go on, Mr. Alexer." Janus replied.
However the general named Mr. Alexer ordered that the visitors will stay in the cabin near the city gate for the main time. While waiting for the summon. Janus understands the protocol of the King here.
Janus awoke before dawn, his body stiff from sleeping on the cold grass. For the two weeks of travel, he felt his body drained. In fact, he could pay in an inn within the city, but he has no intention of spending, and above all, being among his warriors is more essential to him. Even if they perish, they will fight together, this is what a small general represents.
Yet despite his sore body, Janus changes his outfit, with proper clothes as a noble man. Today, he would finally have a chance to join the pack of wolves and humans here. Then he called his assistant.
"Commander Walter, for now I will assigned you to watched over our loads and warriors. Stay here with them. Be the best general this is your duty"
"But General Janus, where are you going?"
Walter was worried because he didn't know what Janus was planning.
"I'm going to look for evidence inside the city, I need to make sure there's a vampire invasion going on here before we deal with the Alpha"
"I understand, but please give us a signal immediately for wherever you are" Commander Walter replied.
"Yes, I will come to you sooner. No matter what happens don't tell anyone that I am in the city"
After he said this, he set off.
By late morning the cottages and farms along the road grew more frequent, and Janus knew he was in the village that part of the city.
Several times he stopped to ask a passing farmer if there is something weird happening around them, like sickness and killings. But none of them tell the truth. Instead they told him that the people in the city are good, and they live peacefully in this place. By now, he wondered just how they get such wrong information coming from. Can an Alpha lie to his soldiers?
Near midday, Janus topped yet another low hill when suddenly, he saw it. Not even a mile away, numerous buildings stretched into the distance, smoke wafting from what must be hundreds if not thousands of chimneys. He could not suppress a feeling of shock as he took in the sight.
Janus knew Surigao City was large, of course, it was the only place in the region called a "the second best city" but the sheer scale of it filled him with awe.
With this many buildings, there had to be thousands of people living here. His mind boggled at the thought. It was as if some giant had picked up all the towns Janus had ever seen and gathered them all together.
Janus marveled at the sight, wondering what it would be like to live in such a best place.
At that moment, a cheerful voice sounded, "First time here, I take it?"
Janus turned around with a start, finding a heavyset man in a bright blue robe behind him.
Before he could respond, the man continued, "You're an Easterner, I take it?"
He gestured at Janus head. "It's the blond hair that gives it away. Don't see much of that around here. So what brings you to the city? If it's work you're looking for, I suppose I could—"
"I'm here for someone," Janus hurriedly interrupted him.
"For someone?" The man frowned.
"To be her mate?" His expression suggested that he did not approve of the idea.
Janus nodded. "Do you know where she is?"
The man chuckled, although the mention of the woman had taken some of the cheer from his voice. "The city is a big place. But women nowadays like to roam, eat and hang out at entertainments, the Pearl center. You couldn't miss it if you tried."
"Can you show me the way?"
