Wishing for Hope

Chapter 1

-13 years later-

Alpha James POV

Thirteen years of searching without a trace of my daughter. My mate fell into a deep depression blaming herself for the disappearance. Adding to everything she had also lost four pups. Two of the four never made it past the first trimester. One made it to the second, but the hardest was the last one. She gave birth to a stillborn little girl. We talked about adoption but it wasnt the same. It caused a few fights between us.

I started putting out flyers for a contest. Losting Mizuki and the other pups put a strain on me. I felt like I was losing my grip on being King. Normally the King Alpha position was taken by the heir. My daughter would have been the first Queen Alpha to take over. Since I was an only child my first cousin could have one of their heirs take over. Seeing as Luke was non blood related his sons couldn't take over. I had talked to the elders about it but the rules were strict. I was to hold a king. If Mizuki was here she would have taken over at eighteen. She could have taken the role of Alpha or Luna either way I would have taught her everything about the packs.

I leaned back in my chair and looked at the picture of my lost pup. Her eyes where both blue and green. It was called heterachromia, where you have two eyes colors hers looked like she had a sunburst pattern of blue and green. Those eyes would always light up when she saw me or her mom.

I heard knocked on the door. I sniffed and smelt my Beta. "Come on in Alex" I say setting down her picture. "Morning Alpha" he said bowing his head as he entered. "I have a list of names of potential candidates for your position." He said and I nod. He handed me the paper. Part of me wanted to be upset even though I asked for them. I let out a small sigh, "Thank you, has the Luna come out of the room yet?" I ask softly and he shook his head. My wolf howled, it pained him just as much to see our mate depressed. "Man, some days are harder than others. Seeing as Mizuki would be 15 it's hard. She might have gotten to interact with her wolf because of her bloodlines this year. I know I met Cheif when i was 15 an a half." I say and Alex places his hand on my shoulder. "We never stopped looking, we have a few leads but nothing yet. We will find out what happened you have my word." He said and I nod. Alex was a good man. He had taken up the task force. I got monthly updates on everything. I stopped sharing everything with Stella as it seemed to just negatively effect her.

Alex left after that and I looked over the name of potential people. All males no females wanted to apply. I sigh and look at the pack census's. Each pack was required to give us names of each pup that was born every year and if they got a new wolf in their pack. Thankfully everything was digital now but when I first became King alpha it wasnt. We had a whole room that was designated to paper copys of everyone in every pack. Dating back to the early 1900s. I pull up the names.

*not impressed says he is only a level two on warrior training, doesn't mean he wont fair but not what I'm looking for*

*not bad but he is missing his right eye. Not a problem but people could see that as a weakness. Seeing the king with a weakness isnt good*

-Zane Matthew's age 18 warrior

*I know that name.He is Luke's eldest. He has my eye. His training record is good too.*

-Jared Hart age 23 warrior

*hes got a good record as well. Warrior training is a great start. Man two of these are gonna make my decision hard.*

'Alex, I have decided to throw a contest. I have two candidates for sure but I want to open the entry back up. Please make sure the the she wolves know they can enter too. ' I mind link Alex.

'Yes Alpha' he states as i go back to busying myself. This contest wasnt going to plan itself. Plus I had to attend the college graduation ceremony soon.

Third person

Mean while over in Crystal island pack the Beta and his family were preparing for his eldest daughter to graduate from the pack medical school. The beta and his mate had two pups and adopted one when she was a baby but never told her. When they got her she was unnamed so they chose the name Willow. When they adopted her she was also sickly. So the beta had special pills made to help her.

Willows POV

My older sister Arizona was finally a pack doctor. She was almost 28 years old. She had always wanted to be one and I admired her dedication to it. My dad walked into my room. "Willow it's time for your meds hun" he said and I nodded. My pills didnt taste good at all. They also made me feel funny for about three hours. I normally took them right when I got up. "Thanks dad" I say softly before picking out my clothes. I pulled on a short multi colored mini dress and a pair on jet black leggings. I looked at my shoes. Why was it always so hard to pick out a pair of shoes. I grabbed my white high tops and ran down the hall to the kitchen. "Hey squirt" Henry, my older brother, said as I walked in for breakfast. "You gonna eat today hun or are you gonna skip again" my mom asked. "I'll eat" I say as she hands me a plate with eggs, bacon and sausage. I eat up the food and smiled when I didnt feel sick. Every couple days I could eat what I wanted and not have the food effect me. Other times I couldn't stand the smell of food. It normally only lasted until around lunch when I could eat normal again. It had to do with the herbs in my meds.

Soon we were in the car going to my sisters graduation. Upon arrival I noticed the King Alpha and his beta. They always came to big events. I was taught that it was custom for the King to attend graduations. It was so he could keep track of what areas had enough people.

We traveled into the Silver Moon pack territory for her graduation. Silver moon had all the colleges, it was also home to the King and Queens house. I saw that Alpha Lestor, my alpha, and Alpha Jayden, Emerald forest's alpha. It looked like Alpha Luke and his two sons were in attendance as well. My mom had homeschooled me. She made sure I knew who all the alphas were. I didnt see Alpha KJ and figured no one from blood claw was here today.

Zanes POV

I saw next to my dad, Alpha Luke. He had pushed me to put in for the Alpha king position. I did knowing I would get to test me skills. If I gained the King position I did, if not i knew i got to size up other future Alphas. I glanced around and noticed a young she wolf. She had brown hair and her eyes looked pretty too. I couldn't tell what color they were but they looked blue or maybe a green. "Hey dad, is that Alpha Lestors beta?" I ask and my dad glances over in the direction. "Yes, that is Beta William and his two kids. Wait two of his three kids. " he says and I nod. "How old is the girl with him?" I ask and my dad shrugs. "Not sure, they adopted her from over seas. She looks to be around 15 to 17 maybe but I'm not sure. After the ceremony we can go greet them if you wish" he said and I nod. Something about that she wolf was drawing me in. My wolf seemed to stir slightly. Which could mean that I might have found my mate but if she is under 18 she wouldn't know yet. Following the ceremony was a small party to honor the grads. I walked in and saw the she wolf off to the side. "Hello, nice class this year. Lots of medical" I say to her. She looks at me and immediately bows her head. "Future Alpha Zane, yes. My sister Zo, I'm mean Arizona graduated " she said. Her voice was like honey. "Well you seem to know my name but I'm not familiar with yours " I say extending my hand. "I'm sorry, I'm Willow" she said shaking my hand. "Nice to meet you willow. Will you be attending the college soon?" I ask and she giggles. "I have about three years. I'm only 15 right now" she said and I smile. "That's not to far, I have a few years before I extend to Alpha. The tradition is at 21 you take the title" I say and she smiles. She smile falls some. "Exsuse me" she says before darting off. My wolf scense said something was wrong with her smell but i couldnt pin point it. "Futrue Alpha Zane" a she wolf said and i turned to see a fairly attractive she wolf walking over. "Im Julie or Jules of the Emerald forest pack. I graduated with a medical degree" she said smiling at me. I smiled back but kept looking for Willow. Julie kept talking my ear off and I nodded and interacted barely. Willow never came back . "Ah Ms. Julie Stone, I must steal Zane away" my father says. 'Thank you' I mind link him. "I'm sorry to steal you away but I have an urgent matter to attend to. Your uncle James as asked for you to come by his office. He said he can get you home after if needed" he says and I nod. I walk up to my uncle's office. My dad called him uncle if it wasnt an offical visit. Most didnt know that my dad and King alpha James were halfcousins and practically brothers. My grandma married into the family after my dad was born. It was funny watching them interact when no one offical was around. They joked and acted like normal wolves but once someone offical or even semi offical came by they changed to serious people. I knock on his office door. "Come on in Zane" he said to me. I walked in and he was smiling. "So you want my job" he said in a joking tone. I chuckled. "Of course Uncle, someone has to do a better job" I teased and he laughed. "I was happy to see your application. Honestly if I could give it to you I would but we have to do it officially. Next year I will be holding a trail. Any one who I feel fit to compete will. To keep it extra fair I will have rounds and the last four contenders will compete for the title. During the title round there will be a number on contests then a race. Who ever completes it the fastest and with the most points will be given the title. I sadly cant train with you as people would see that as a conflict but I will be offering each candidate a chance to train against me and be trained by my head guards before the contest. Also the elders will be the judges. I will state what I'm looking for and they will judge each round. With the final contest they will simply make sure no one is cheating. If it is determined that someone is cheating then that person will not become king. Its stated in the rules on contest" he said and my smile was starting to hurt from smiling so hard.
