Gideon nodded slowly. “Yeah. You should have let him take me. You barely know me. I’m not worth losing a decade or two over.”
Her glare faded and she reached for him again, holding his hand. “How could I leave you to him after you’d stopped to help me? You’re not a murderer. Not even accidentally. ”
His wry smile made an appearance. “I did think at one stage that I might be considered a hired killer. After all we were paid to cut down the tree.”
She reluctantly smiled, thoughts of her sister causing it to disappear nearly as quickly as it had arrived. “Not even that. They should let the world know they exist. Or remain in the realms of the Fae where people would know not to cut down their trees.”
