Quinn would have stepped back at the dagger sharp gaze directed towards her if Gideon hadn’t been in the way. Kaeder’s face was angular, there was the slightest point to his ears, his closely cropped hair was a sandy blond and his eyes ice blue. “I’m looking for work.” She glanced towards Gideon. “We’re looking for work.”
“Where’s the boy who’s meant to be here?” Kaeder turned to Darci.
“Why are you looking at me? How am I meant to know where he is? I manage the inside staff,” Darci said.
“This is inside.”
“No, you have to go outside to get to it, so technically, you have to take care of this area,” Darci said. “Don’t go thinking you can con more work out of me.”
Kaeder turned his back on Darci. “Boy! Where are you, boy?”
“It’s Mike,” Darci said.
