I looked away quickly than necessary.
Like even looking at him was something I wasn't allowed to do anymore.
"Look who decided to show up."
The voice came from my left, low and mocking, and I didn't need to turn to know who it was.
Tara. Of course.
I kept walking, ignoring her, walking faster than necessary even though every instinct in my body screamed at me to turn around, to snap, to defend myself, to say something, anything, but I swallowed it down, forcing my expression blank as I moved past her and the small group gathered around her.
"Careful," she added, louder this time, making sure others heard, "wouldn't want to accidentally seduce another authority figure. Seems to be her only talent."
A few snickers followed.
