And immediately, I sensed someone watching me. My little wolf reacted a bit before my brain did.
Serena slowly stepped out from behind one of the training pillars the second she noticed me approaching, and even from several feet away I could already tell something about her looked different tonight.
She seemed tired, and dark circles were beneath her eyes while she looked so tense and rigid.
"You came," she said quietly.
I crossed my arms immediately. "Barely."
Something that almost looked like relief flashed briefly across her face anyway before disappearing again.
"You're late."
"I wanted to make sure I wasn't accidentally following instructions like an obedient little victim walking into a murder scene."
