899 Words
Amara sat on the edge of the enormous bed, unable to calm the storm raging inside her. The stranger's face remained a blur in her memory, but his warning echoed clearly in her mind. “If you want to stay alive..leave this house.” Who was the black hooded man holding g up her picture? Then there was Alexander's words. “The person trying to kill me might already be inside this house.” She wrapped her arms around herself, trying to stop the trembling in her hands. The room suddenly felt different. It no longer felt luxurious. It felt as though someone was watching her. Her eyes slowly wandered around the bedroom. The elegant curtains swayed gently in the night breeze. The crystal chandelier sparkled above her. Everything appeared normal. Then… Something caught her attention. A tiny black object glinted in the corner of the ceiling almost hidden beside the curtain rail. She frowned. What is that?” Curiosity drew her closer. As she squinted, her blood ran cold. It wasn't a decoration. It wasn't a screw. It was a miniature surveillance camera. Amara gasped and instinctively stepped backwards. Her heart slammed against her chest. Someone had been watching her.watching everything she did. watching her every move Watching her sleep. Fear gripped her so tightly that she could barely breathe. “Who would do this?” She whispered. “And why”? Before she could gather her thoughts— Knock. Knock. A gentle knock sounded at the bedroom door. “Amara?” Alexander's calm voice came from outside. “Are you awake?" She swallowed hard before answering. “Y-yes.” The door opened. Alexander stepped inside, his sharp eyes immediately scanning the room He noticed her frightened expression. “What happened?” Without speaking, Amara slowly pointed towards the ceiling. “There…” Alexander followed her gaze. The moment he spotted the tiny device his whole countenance changed and his jaw tightened. His eyes grew dangerously cold. He dragged a chair beneath the camera, climbed onto it and carefully removed the device without saying a word. He examined it. “Its a military-grade “, he muttered. Amara blinked “What does that mean?” “What???” “It means this isn't something an ordinary criminal would use.” He turned the camera over his hand. “It's expensive.” His voice became quieter. “Someone invested a great deal of money just to watch this room.” A chill travelled through Amara's body. “Me?” Alexander looked at her. “Maybe”. Then he looked back at the device. “Or me.” He pressed a hidden button on the side. A tiny screen flickered to life. The last recorded footage began to play. Amara held her breath. The video showed her entering the bedroom earlier that evening. Minutes later…. The bedroom door slowly opened, A hooded figure stepped inside Her eyes widened. “That's him!” Her voice trembled. “That's the man who came into my room” “Rule number three” he said with gritted teeth. “Trust me always” “So why am I just hearing that a stranger entered your room?” “I..I” Amara stuttered Alexander watched the footage carefully. Then, just as mysteriously as he had appeared he vanished. Alexander stopped the recording. His face had become completely unreadable. “He's good.” “What do you mean?” “He avoided every visible security camera in this mansion.” He looked towards the bedroom door. “Which means he knows this house”. Amara's stomach tightened. “You think…” “He could be someone who works here” The words sent another wave of fear through her. “There are over thirty staff members living on this estate.” Alexander's voice remained calm. “I trust very few of them”. Amara suddenly realised she was surrounded by strangers. The guards. The servants. The drivers. Any one of them could be spying on her or waiting for the perfect time to strike. “What do we do now?” she asked quietly. Alexander slipped the camera into his jacket pocket. “We find out who's behind this.” He stepped closer until only a short distance separated them. “And until we do…” His voice became firm. “You don't go anywhere alone.” “What?” “I mean it.” His eyes held hers. “Not the gardens “Not the hallways”. “Not even downstairs.” “You stay with me.” Amara searched his face. “And if I don't.?" Amara searched his face. His expression hardened. “Then you will be breaching one of the rules of the contract and then again you will be making it easier for them”. A cold silence settled between them. Outside, the wind howled through the trees, rattling the tall windows of the mansion. The luxurious estate no longer felt like a place of safety. Its grand halls… Its glittering chandeliers.. Its smiling servants…. They were all hiding something. Amara slowly looked around the bedroom one last time. When she had arrived, she thought she was entering a beautiful home. Now she knows the truth. It wasn't a home. It was a cage. And somewhere inside its walls… Someone was waiting for the perfect moment to kill.
