CHAPTER 3

1045 Words
Rachel`s POV “All you people do is remind me how much of a failure I was while I do literally everything for you, you never treat me like your child, am I even yours?” I hold my heart trying to ease the unbearable pain that has gathered there but nothing seems to be working. “If you stop being an ungrateful riffraff, you would realize just how much we have put into you, but you rather doubt yourself like a foul dead egg.” I stare at my mother how she could be so harsh with her words to her own daughter. I wipe my tears, maybe she never loved me, maybe I am just a mistake she tried to probably flush but I didn`t go away. “I.Am.Not.A.Foul.Dead.Egg!” I am definitely all the things she has uttered from her mouth, after all, there is no good in me, but I will not accept any more utterances from her, I have done more than enough for her and her family, and if they can`t accept me this way, then so be it. “You do not speak to me in that tone, you insolent brat!” She picks up a knife and stares at me. “What did I ever do to you to deserve all of this?!” I pack the few things, the look she gives me with that knife, I am not willing to see what happens in the end. “Oh, if only that stupid man you call your father will actually tell you the truth, but he insists on feeding you lies! Just like your whole life! Lies!” She starts walking towards me and I run from the house, her last words still echoing in my head, “your whole life, lies.” I rush out and I hurriedly stop a cab, not caring to check for my cards or wallets, I try opening the cab door and it seems stuck, the cab man notices I am in a hurry and quickly opens his cab himself. I jump in and jam the door and without any questions, he starts driving. Anybody seeing me in a such state, would understand the fact I am actually in a hurry, my blonde hair which is usually straight is blown across all directions, north, east, west and south, and it probably looks like a bird`s nest. There is snot running my nose and I am headed to nowhere with a shabby nightwear and a bag that I hurriedly pack with in a state of emergency and haste. I wipe my face off for a start and quickly think of a place to stay, I can only think of hotels and motels. After careful consideration, I am well known and being captured in any motel with anybody is going to tarnish the dealings of the company and I decide to opt for a hotel. “Please take me to Oak Hotels.” I tap the driver and let him know my destination. I relax on the chair and I drift off, I wake up when I feel the cab coming to an abrupt stop. I open my eyes and we have arrived at my location. I put my hand in my bag and feel for my purse, I find none. I rotate my hands around the bag looking for my card and I feel nothing. I chew on my lips wondering the kind of sticky situation I have gotten myself into. After wracking my brains, I manage to find a way of making it look less complicated than it actually is. “Hello.” The cab man is now outside his cab, he turns from where he is leaning on his car and faces me. I gulp a load of air, I close my eyes and inhale deeply. “So, um, I don`t really have so much cash on me, so if you could help me with your number and your bank details, I will do the needful once I settle down properly.” He looks at me totally unfazed, my heart starts beating in my chest, what if he is the typical ‘calm before the storm’, I can`t stand being in a scandal at this point. That evil witch of a mother will definitely take advantage of me, I think fast and I remember that I still have my thousand dollar worth diamond necklace and earrings, I pull them off as quickly as possible. “You can have them, I will pay you as much as you want. Please don`t make a scene. Thanks for your help.” He lifts one of his eyebrows up and I know I am done for. The universe is truly against me today. “ You seem as though you are the one that actually needs help. You look lost.” Not in the mood, I am totally lost, I can`t seem to decipher the actual meaning in his words. I ignore it and begin to move towards the hotel, I have already offered everything I can and if he is not willing to take such a huge amount, then somebody bigger obviously paid him and there is nothing I can do about it. “Hey, let me help you.” My ears stand at his words. “And how on Earth does a taxi driver expect to help me? Look whoever paid you to do this obviously paid you well and I have no extra cash on me, so please just do whatever they asked you to do and let me be.” Since I cannot buy him off, I might as well play the game him and whoever he is working with wants me to. “I was not here by anyone`s command and if I may remind you, you entered my taxi on your own accord, I am just offering to help because everything does not seem to be fine with you and I simply care.” There seems to be honesty in his words but I know better than trusting a complete stranger because of mere words. I ignore him and I keep moving forward. Once I get to the hotel, everything would be settled for the night at least.
