CHAPTER 5

1023 Words
Rachel`s POV I wake up in a strange room with a buzzing sound that seems to be the humming of an air conditioner. The last thing I remember is seeing that driver chase after me in the hotel, I place my hands on my head as if it will help reduce the pain that bangs my head. I failed to realize it but now that things are becoming clear, I notice I am under a duvet and without my undergarments. My heart skips as I come to the realization of what happened. “Oh, Sweet Mother Theresa, this can`t be happening.” I stare at the floor and there is proof; my pants and his boxers flung across the bed. Bitter tears sting my eyes. I remember myself warning him not to create a scene, quickly I search for a camera, my heart beating fast when I see nothing. “Has he already sent the pictures, I am so dead!” I chew my fingers careful not to cry out aloud and wake him up, carefully I pick up my clothes and redress, this time I am not running in a frenzied state. I stare around and it is indeed Oak Hotel. I carefully dial the hotel`s number, the call does not go through. Great. So I have to go down to the reception desk like this. I quickly search his pockets and I find his ID, I tuck it in my dress, prepping for the scandal that I`m sure is about to set loose. I book a cab and I stroll down to the reception desk, the boss lady in me reactivated, it will take a whole lot more than an evil mother to stop Rachel Howard, I am no quitter and I won`t stop fighting. I pay for the hotel with my card, with clear eyes, I am able to find in it in the zipper of my bag. And I take my cab back home, I can`t resume work this way. I go home and that evil wench is nowhere to be found. I exhale, a breath I had no idea I was holding, I get into the shower and I take a proper bath, surprisingly, I do not feel sore. I brush the thought to the back of my mind and I quickly prepare for work. My PA would deal with him personally, that is, if need be. Left with freedom, I prepare oats and scrambled eggs just the way I want and I head off to work. The first face I see is just who I was expecting, dressed in my navy blue jacket, bright white top and a leggings that matches the top, I smile, a bright smile that I`m sure would put her to the edge. “And what gives you the audacity to smile in this office? Is that what you do all day? You dress up, leave home and come here to smile?” She increases the pitch of her voice with each question, obviously trying to draw attention to her daughter who recovered way faster than she imagined. And I am down for it. “Oh sweet mother, of course, you can`t produce a first child so daft and lazy as such, now can you? If you permit me, I`d rather say second borns are usually the ones with such exhuberant character, right?” I ignore the daggers flying in her eyes and go on with having a good time, things can`t get better than slapping this b***h in public, I smirk, fully prepared for her next comeback. She smiles and I stare at her, my thoughts drifting off to a disturbing scenario. “ A certain Mr. Jack Solomon was here to see you, quite a young handsome man you got yourself there.” For an unknown reason, the name rings a bell in my head, I can`t seem to figure out the face behind the name but it sounds way too familiar. “A Mr. Who?” The smile on her face gets wider and I wonder what is up with her and this name. It becomes clear to me when the driver I had carelessly spent the night with emerges from the crowd, staring at me with a smile, just his seems warm and genuine. “So it was!” I lock my jaws together and stop the words from flying out my mouth. I stare at the both of them with so much hatred in my eyes, if I was a magician, they would have erupted in flames. “ A little spillover child?” I keep inhaling, controlling my temper with the wind and maybe it is my imagination but it seems to beckon to me. “You know, when your father and I had asked you to get married, I was not expecting, tsk, a scenario like this, if you were so desperate to leave home, we could have rented an apartment for you, you know? But no, you always have to drag me and my husband in a mess, now you stoop this low? What to say, I am not really disappointed, knew nothing worthwhile could come out from you.” She pauses and stares at the crowd and I almost fall to my knees when I notice the crowd witnessing this. “ What do you want? You and your perpetrator?” Unable to bear with the shame and loss of a scandal, I decide to cut it off where I can. “Oh, you know, Rachel, don`t be the miss goody two shoes now? Where is the resolve I saw earlier, there were flames in your eyes, now, weren`t they?” “ Oops, didn`t see a tragic defeat there, now did you? Well, as for what I want, let`s call it private and confidential, hmm?” I clench my fists wishing I could just kill her, but then I go over everything in my head, the driver, how did they put this up? Someone has to be helping her. “If you are this smart, why not get it through yourself, mother? Why use your child?”
