Chapter 1: A Rockstar's Rage

1003 Words
Adrian Knight leaned back in the sleek leather chair of his penthouse studio, fingers absentmindedly strumming an acoustic guitar resting on his lap. The melody was raw, passionate, yet tinged with an unmistakable darkness that mirrored his emotions. A legend in the music industry, Adrian was the epitome of success, his name synonymous with sold out concerts, chart-topping hits, and an aura of undeniable charisma. Yet, beneath the surface, the superstar’s heart simmered with anger and vengeance. "She ruined my life, Adrian!" Vanessa's tear-stricken voice echoed in his mind. His younger sister had stormed into his life that evening, unraveling in a whirlwind of heartbreak. He had never seen Vanessa, the usually composed and refined sibling, in such a disheveled state. Her elegant demeanor was replaced by trembling hands and a completely broken spirit. She had confessed everything to him, how her long time love, Ethan, had left her to marry another woman. And, according to Vanessa, it was not just a change of heart on Ethan’s part. The blame, she insisted, lay squarely on Elena Harper, the woman who had "manipulated" Ethan into abandoning her. Adrian tightened his grip on the guitar. “Elena Harper,” he muttered under his breath, testing the name on his tongue like a bitter pill. Vanessa's tear-filled gaze had burned into his memory. "She’s nothing but a lowlife, Adrian! She told Ethan I wasn’t good enough for him, that he deserved someone more grounded. And now, he’s married to that…that plain, boring woman!” Adrian had listened intently, rage bubbling beneath the surface. His sister’s heartbreak was unacceptable, not when she was the only sibling he had. He carries her like an egg and ensures no one tampers with her emotions. In their family, the Knights do not take kindly to losing, especially not to someone like Elena Harper, a nobody who dared meddle in their lives. He turned in his chair, his gaze landing on a stack of tabloids littering the coffee table. His world may have been about rock and roll, but his public image was a carefully curated empire. As he flipped through the pages, his mind churned with a single thought: revenge. Later that night, Adrian sat across from Vanessa in the expansive dining room of the Knight mansion. The room was adorned with crystal chandeliers and gold-accented furniture, a testament to their wealth and power. Yet, all the opulence in the world couldn’t mask the bitterness in Vanessa’s voice. “She’s a manipulator,” Vanessa spat, sipping her wine with trembling hands. “She pretends to be this sweet, hardworking woman, but she’s conniving. I hate her. I hate her so much” Adrian leaned back in his chair, studying his sister. “What’s her story?” “She’s just a nobody from the lower side of town. Works two jobs, always pretending to be self-righteous. But she’s not as innocent as she seems. She plays people, Adrian. She played me. She manipulated Ethan, and now he's gone.” Her words sparked something in Adrian, a dangerous cocktail of curiosity and determination. If Elena Harper thought she could destroy Vanessa’s happiness and walk away unscathed, she was mistaken. “What do you want me to do?” he asked, his voice low and calculated. Vanessa hesitated, her eyes flickering with uncertainty. “I don’t know… I just want her to feel what I feel. To lose everything. To feel the heartbreak I'm feeling right now, or even worse.” Adrian smirked. “Then I’ll make it happen. I’ll destroy her life piece by piece, starting with the one thing she can’t resist.” Vanessa frowned. “What’s that?” “Me.” … Adrian’s investigation began the next day. With his resources, it didn’t take long to dig into Elena’s life. She was exactly what Vanessa had described, an ordinary woman with an extraordinary resilience. She worked tirelessly to support her younger brother, juggling shifts as a waitress and a receptionist. Her parents were long gone, leaving her as the sole provider for her small family. “She’s practically a saint,” Adrian mused, reading the report his private investigator had compiled. “How boring.” But it wasn’t her innocence that intrigued him; it was her vulnerability. Despite her seemingly perfect moral compass, Elena was drowning in financial struggles. Her brother’s medical bills were mounting, and her meager income couldn’t keep up. Adrian’s lips curled into a wicked grin. Everyone had a breaking point, and he had found hers… easily. By the end of the week, Adrian was ready. His plan was simple yet foolproof: he would insert himself into Elena’s life, appearing as her savior, only to trap her in a situation she couldn’t escape. Marriage. It was drastic, yes, but Adrian was nothing if not dramatic. “She’ll never see it coming,” he muttered to himself, closing the file. Vanessa was skeptical when Adrian revealed his plan. “You’re going to marry her?” she asked, incredulous. “Not for love,” Adrian clarified. “For control. Once she’s under my roof, I’ll make sure her life is miserable. She’ll regret ever crossing our family.” Vanessa still seemed unsure, but Adrian’s confidence was infectious. “Trust me, Vanessa. By the time I’m done with Elena Harper, she’ll wish she never laid eyes on Ethan, or me, or meddled in our family.” Elena Harper’s life was about to change forever, though she had no idea. At that moment, she was seated in her tiny apartment, poring over medical bills she couldn’t pay. Her younger brother, Liam, had been sick for years, and every cent she earned went toward his treatment. As she ran a hand through her dark hair, she sighed deeply, feeling the weight of the world on her shoulders. She had always been a fighter, but lately, the fight seemed unwinnable. Little did she know, her path was about to c ross with Adrian Knight, a man who would turn her world upside down.
