Chapter 12
(Lex’s POV)
We have two days left in this hellhole, and I am seriously over it. After waking up by the waterfall, we just laid there until it was time to go to school. I ran back to the orphanage, and when I got there, I made sure no one was around before shifting into my human form. The process hurts a little, but we’re getting better at it, and I hope the pain gets easier with every shift.
Taking on my human body, I jump up the side of the house and launch myself into my room through the still-open window. I land gracefully and freeze when I see Mary looking back at me.
Did she leave my room at all? Was she waiting for me? Those are the thoughts running through my head as I look into her eyes and realize she hasn’t slept — she’s been waiting for my return.
