We finished setting up camp about six miles out of town. Boss wanted us to keep a low profile because of “her mate’s” howl—depending on who the mate was, she might still be unclaimed, or maybe she’d already found him. Boss’s exact words were blunt: “If you find a mate with her—kill him.”
It’d been a while since I’d had a proper fight, so I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t quietly hoping she’d already been claimed. I wanted to sink a blade into the throat of whoever dared touch what I thought should have been mine. Alexandria left scars—marks that still ache—so a little payback sounded perfect.
