Chapter 28

Bella POV

There was something about the Lycan, something I knew. He wasn't just a regular Lycan. He had been sent once again to try to get into my head, and I was so sick of this. I knew of only one person who would have sent him.,Ramen.

Talking about gates that I knew didn't exist. The first gate? There weren't any gates. Of all the people I hated now, Ramen was at the top of that list. His tricks, always his tricks. He was trying to make me scared of myself. Scared of myself enough that I would run from my mate, the only real mate I had ever had. Matter of fact, I felt like Ramen had used something to fool me into thinking he and I were mates.

I never felt the sparks. I never felt anything. But once he marked me as his mate, that's when I felt it, the pain in my stomach and chest. Once my wolf told me what was happening, it was already too late.

I was his mate by the mark.

Sighing, I touched the spot where his mark had once been with my fingertips. His mark was gone now. It was nothing more than an ugly scar.

I remembered what Brady had told me about what Winter had said to him. Then I knew what I had to do. The marking had to be done.

And the ceremony we never had? That needed to happen too.

So let it be done. We would mark each other.

“Brady, let's mark each other. Call an elder here right now. It needs to be done.”

He was shocked by what I had said. “Bella, it's late. We can do this tomorrow.”

I shook my head. I wanted this done before anything else could happen. I wasn't going to wait any longer.

“And what if tomorrow never comes? What if something else happens? Let's get this done tonight. Let's have the Luna ceremony.”

He thought for a moment before his eyes clouded over. I knew he was mind-linking someone. A few moments later, he looked back at me.

“To all my people, we are having a quick Luna ceremony in the ceremonial hall. Quickly. It will be explained once you're there.”

Then he looked at me and smiled.

“The elder should be here within thirty minutes. I have my sister coming to get you ready.”

And just like that, there was a knock on the door. Morticia walked into the room.

“We don't have time. Brother, get your butt going and get ready. Leave the Luna and me alone so I can get her ready.”

He laughed before hurrying out of the room.

“All right, girl. Come on. Let me get you ready.”

And just like that, that's exactly what she did. I took a quick shower and hurried back out so she could do my hair and makeup. When she was finished, she still wouldn't let me look in the mirror. Instead, she hurried out of the room to get something. When she came back, she was carrying a dress.

“It's not the ceremonial gown, but it's perfect for you. Come on, let's get you into it. I also got the shoes and jewelry to match your dress.”

I quickly got dressed while Morticia helped me with the heels and jewelry.

Once I was finally finished, she allowed me to look in the mirror long enough to take myself in.My eyes widened as I looked at myself.

My hair was curly and pinned up around my head. I loved how it looked. The makeup was perfect, not too dark and not too much.

The dress was a strapless white dress that showed off a little of my curves. I loved how I looked.

“Come on. Brady is mind-linking me, telling me to hurry up. The elder is here waiting.”

I nodded, and we hurried out. I wasn't prepared for what I saw when I walked into the ceremonial hall. They had quickly decorated it with flowers and ribbons. It looked beautiful. Everyone was standing around, wondering what was going on. Then they saw me. Everyone grew quiet as I walked toward the stage. Brady watched every step I took. He took my hand in his and smiled.

“You look beautiful.” He walked me over to the elder, and the ceremony began.

Brady POV

When Bella walked into the hall, my eyes widened. My goddess, she looked beautiful. I wanted to mark her right then and there, but we had to wait for the elder to speak his words. Once we were marked, that meant we were officially each other's mates. I took a few steps toward her and took her hand in mine, walking her toward the elder.

“Elder Berry, this is Bella. Bella, this is Elder Berry.”

He nodded at her and smiled before looking at both of us.

Then he began to speak. “Luna Bella, I'm sure you will be a good Luna. Now, let's begin with the ceremony.”

He turned toward everyone gathered in the hall. “Ladies and gentlemen, and pups, we are all gathered here tonight to have the Luna ceremony. If anyone objects, please speak up now. Once the ceremony ends, it will be too late.”

No one said a word. So he continued.

“All right, Bella, Luna Bella, do you promise to fight beside Brady and the pack? Do you promise to go on hunts and help the pack when needed? Do you promise to train with the others, to help the Alpha with his work, and to go with him on meetings and trips?”

Bella nodded. “Do you promise to always be loyal and faithful to Alpha Brady and the pack? Never to reveal the secrets of the pack to others? To put him in his place when needed? To always be honest with him as he is with you? To love him until the two of you are gone? To help with the pups? And do you promise, when the two of you are ready, to try to have pups of your own?”

There was a lot more to the vows, but when he finally finished, Bella answered.

“Yes, Elder Berry. I promise to everything you just asked me.”

I smiled. Then I pulled out the Luna ring. Bella's eyes widened as I gently took her hand and placed the ring on her finger. The elder then asked us to show him the palms of our right hands.He made a small cut on both of our palms before we clasped our hands

together. He wrapped a rope around our joined hands.

Bella suddenly felt the surge of power running through her body.

I could feel it too. Once the ceremony was complete, the elder removed the rope from our hands. Then he looked at us.

“Everyone here is a witness to this gathering of the Alpha and Luna. You may now mark each other.”

So that's what we did. I leaned toward Bella and sank my canines into her marking spot. Once I was finished, she did the same to me.

The moment her mark took hold, I felt the bond settle into place. The elder raised our joined hands into the air.

“Please welcome your new Luna, Luna Bella Wallace!”

Everyone cheered. Then, one by one, they shifted into their wolves and howled. Bella was now officially the Luna of the Red River Wolf Pack. And my mate for life.

“All right, Alpha Brady and Luna Bella,” Elder Berry said. “I know the contract is now void since you have discovered that you are true mates. But I must leave now. It's getting late.”

With that, he turned and walked away. I turned toward our people.

“I am happy that all of you came tonight. You can now go home and get some rest. I'm going to take my mate and go relax.”

Some people wolf-whistled. Others cheered. Then everyone began heading off to do their own thing. Maybe they would go out.

Maybe have a few beers. Maybe get some sleep. But for us, I planned on spending time with my mate. My love. The woman who was finally, truly mine. But in the back of my mind, I knew Ramen had felt everything. He would know about the ceremony. He would know about the marking. And he would know that Bella was no longer alone.

Ramen wasn't going to get Bella. He wasn't going to hurt her.

Not if I had anything to say about it. Because if he tried, I would have his head.

Absolutely. I'll pick up right after the ceremony, with Ramen realizing the bond has changed and setting up the next conflict.
