Chapter 19
Ramen POV
I sent him to her because I needed his powers. He was a wizard, and his particular ability was dangerous. He could get inside someone's head and manipulate what they saw and believed. He could make a person think they were seeing someone they loved. He could make them believe the people closest to them were lying and hiding things from them.
And that was exactly what I needed. I wanted Bella back.
She had gotten far too comfortable with herself lately. She was standing up for herself now. She was learning too quickly. She wasn't the same woman I had known before.I didn't like it.
Bella needed to be reminded of her place.
She needed to learn a lesson. I had spent months teaching the wizard everything he needed to know about her. I showed him pictures. I described how short she was, how she moved, what she looked like, and everything he needed to make the illusion believable. She was beautiful, but she was also too trusting.
She would believe almost anything someone told her.
At least, that's what I thought.I watched from the trees as the wizard stepped toward her. Then I heard her voice.
"Dad?"
A smile spread across my face.
It was working. She believed him. The wizard was making Bella see her father. Everything was going exactly as planned. Then suddenly,
Something came rushing out of the trees. The warriors surrounding Bella immediately went on alert. They thought they were under attack.
"What the hell?" one of them shouted. Everything became chaotic.
I looked back toward Bella. Then I saw her eyes. They weren't normal anymore. Something was happening.
She took several steps backward, staring down at her hands.
Shit. This was about to hit the fan.
Bella POV
That man wasn't my father. I knew it now. He was an intruder.
A wizard. He had been trying to get inside my head and make me believe my father was still alive. But something inside me had changed. I could feel it. Something powerful was building inside my body.
I looked down at my hands. Light was glowing from my palms.
"What the..."
I stared at them in shock. I had no idea what was happening.
Then Storm spoke inside my head.
"Flash it right into his eyes."
I blinked. "What?"
"Flash the light directly into his eyes. It will blind him. He won't be able to see. That's when we bring him down."
I wasn't sure about this. "Are you sure, Storm?"
"Yes. I'm positive. Do it now!"
Well...I trusted my wolf. I lifted my hand. The light gathered in my palm until it was almost blinding. Then I threw it straight at the wizard. The light hit him directly in the eyes. He screamed.
"YOU b***h! YOU BLINDED ME! I CAN'T SEE!"
I didn't give him a chance to say anything else. My body shifted.
Bones cracked. Fur covered my skin. And Storm took control.
She launched herself at him. She went straight for his throat.
Her jaws clamped down. Then she ripped. The wizard hit the ground. Storm wasn't finished. She tore into him until there was no doubt that he was dead. Blood covered the ground. I had never seen Storm this powerful before.,She wasn't just strong.
She was getting stronger. Much stronger. When she finally stepped away from the body, I shifted back into my human form. I quickly grabbed the shorts and shirt I had left hidden in a tree and pulled them on. Then I turned around. And froze. Brady was staring at me.
His mouth was hanging open so far I was pretty sure his jaw was about to hit the ground.
"What?" I asked.
He didn't answer. Instead, something hit me. A scent. Rosebuds.
Fresh-cut grass. My eyes widened. No. It couldn't be. I looked at Brady. My heart started pounding. That wizard had been telling the truth. Brady really was my mate. I should have figured it out sooner.
But I was angry. Not because he was my mate. I was angry because he had known.
"How long have you known, Brady?" I demanded. "How long have you known that we were mates?"
He looked confused for a second.,Then realization crossed his face.
"I've known for a few months."
"A few months?".I stared at him.
He swallowed. "And why didn't you tell me that Storm was a lycan? I thought she was a wolf."
I stared at him. Was he seriously trying to turn this around on me?
"Brady, she's a wolf. Not a lycan."
Before he could answer, another voice came from inside my head.
"Actually, Mrs. Bella, I am a lycan."
I froze. What?
"Bella, I'm a lycan. Let me introduce myself."
I stood completely still. "My name is Winter." My jaw dropped.
"You have had me since you were five years old, but I was sleeping. I awoke when you used your magic on that wizard."
I couldn't even breathe. "It's time for me to start showing you how to use your powers properly."
I looked down at my hands. Then back at Brady. Then back at the dead wizard. Then back at Brady again. What the hell was happening? I had a wolf. Apparently, I also had a lycan. And now I had magic. And somehow, Brady was my mate. My life had officially gone completely insane. I finally looked at Brady.
"Welllll..."
He raised an eyebrow.
"I was just told that my lycan has awakened. Her name is Winter."
I pointed at myself.
"Apparently, you've known we're mates for months."
Then I pointed toward the dead wizard. "That man was trying to trick me." Then I pointed at my own chest. "And apparently, I have magic." I threw my hands into the air. "So, yes! We're mates. Okay, great!"
Brady opened his mouth. I held up my hand. "Nope. Don't say anything yet."
He closed his mouth. I took a deep breath. "Now what?"
Brady stared at me. I stared back. "What are we going to do about the contract?"
He blinked. I groaned. "I'm f*****g confused right now." Inside my head, Winter suddenly laughed. "You aren't the only one."
I sighed.,"Great. Even my lycan thinks this is a mess."
Brady finally chuckled. And somehow, hearing him laugh made my heart flutter. I hated that. Because now that I knew he was my mate… Everything was about to change.
