Chapter 23
Ramen POV
I was stunned. I thought I was seeing things, but I knew I wasn't. Bora, excuse me, Bella. That's what she liked to be called now. I liked the old name, but she is Bella now. Who is she kidding? She will always be Bora.
She shot light from her hands, blinding the wizard. I thought the guy was smart. He said he could block other magic. Well, he didn't block hers. He called out in pain as Bella shifted. We were together for years, and I have never known she had a Lycan. I thought Storm was a wolf. This made me so confused.
She tore the guy's neck apart, then clawed at his stomach, making sure he was dead. She's more powerful than I thought, and I screwed it up by sleeping with other women. I needed to get her back. Simon is dead now. He thought he could kill King Gary and take Jenni, but his plan backfired, and he died.
Now, I need to be smarter. I need to win her heart back. I need to make her know I don't want anyone else but her. It's going to be hard because I love women, but she would never know since we don't have a bond anymore. She rejected me, and it didn't even hurt her.
I need a new plan now. Maybe I can get some kind of potion for her to fall back in love with me. Then I can get rid of her other mate. I'll just need to figure things out first.
Alpha Brady POV
So, now my Bella has a wolf and a Lycan. I was so confused right now, but when she asked me how long I had known we were mates, I told her for several months now. But the truth is, I have known since the day she came to the territory.
I wasn't ready to have a mate. During the weeks that we spent time together, I started falling for her, and now I can't see my life without her. I saw the anger in her eyes. She was pissed at me for keeping that from her.
I promised Storm I wouldn't say anything. I wanted her to figure things out on her own. I wanted her to come to me of her own free will. But once her Lycan came out, she had scented me.
If Ramen was her first mate, didn't she feel the same with him? Feeling the sparks when they touched each other? I wanted to ask her, but the look she gave me made me decide not to.
“I'm not rejecting you, Brady.”
I couldn't help but smile from ear to ear.
“Stop smiling like that. I'm still mad at you.”
But I saw her smile before she quickly hid it. “I can't help it, Bella. I was worried you were going to reject me, but once you said that, I couldn't help but smile. I'm glad you're not rejecting me.”
“I need time, Brady. I've been lied to, cheated on, and made to feel like it was my fault. And yeah, I know you didn't do that to me. Damen did. Just give me some time. I need time to think, that's all.”
I can do that. I can give her some space. I needed to do something with the contract, but first, we needed to get out of the woods.
“Come on. We need to get home. You can go and relax, and I will go into the office and figure out what I'm going to do with the paperwork.”
Yeah, I had paperwork. That wasn't a lie, but I needed to see if there was a loophole in the contract. My sister was the one who wrote it up. I just had to finish it. The elders signed it. If there was a loophole in there, I needed to find it.
We walked in silence until we got home. She turned and looked at me.
“I want to sleep alone tonight. I know it's hard, but that's what I want. I want to think, okay?”
I didn't like that idea at all, but if that's what she wanted, I had to give it to her. I knew she needed time to think, and I needed to work on that contract to see if I could find a loophole.
She leaned toward me, kissed my cheek, and then walked toward her room. Man, I wanted to follow her and hold her in my arms, but I couldn't. I didn't want to crowd her.
Walking into my office, I saw my sister, Mortisha. She had the contract on my desk. She was leaning over my desk, looking at it.
I had forgotten that I had mindlinked her, telling her what had happened and that Bella had figured out we were mates. I should have known she would rush in here to see if she could find a loophole.
I hoped she could find it. She looked up at me, smiling.
One word came from her mouth. “I found the loophole.”
Rushing over to her, I asked, “Okay, tell me. What's the loophole?”
“When you asked me to do the contract, I had forgotten one part I had put down. Look what I did.”
So, I grabbed the contract and looked at it as I sat down in my chair. I was trying to figure out what she was talking about, so I started reading page by page. Then, on the last page, I saw it.
That smart girl. My sister was smart.
It read:
During the contract, if the male and female find out they are mates, the contract is voided. The elders will have no say over the voiding of the contract. Therefore, the male and female will mark each other, then will mate.
Shit. I don't think she will mate with me right now, but maybe she will let me mark her. Grabbing the contract, I ran to her room, not bothering to knock. I slammed the door open, making her jump. I almost laughed when she did that.
“Found the loophole.”
